Guy was DUI and rear ended my brand new 760
Car was 4 months old. After it happened, I found out that four cameras are always recording and they over-write if no issues. After the car senses a collision, it stores the previous 20 seconds and the latest 20 seconds. I attached a link to the video from the rear camera and it's still hard to watch. Damage was $38K and he had no insurance so my company is garnishing his wages. We were all fine but his car was totaled. We encountered some road construction and had to slow down but he didn't even touch his brakes. This happened 6 months ago and the repair shop is just now getting the parts and I take it in for the repair in a week. Can't wait to get it back and resume driving it again in pristine condition (I hope). It's still a driver but just not a looker.

The video was hard to watch. Can you get diminished value on your car in Mo.? Glad to hear everyone in the car was OK.
About 1 1/2 years ago I was rear ended in my 5 Series while stopped at a traffic light by an uninsured and DUI driver although the damages weren't as bad as yours.

Someone else mentioned diminished value to me and I asked my insurance agent about it. Basically, that only applies when selling a vehicle to another person and I'm definitely keeping the car. I plan to own it for many years and enjoy lots of road trips in it. I was actually on a road trip with two of our closest friends when this happened. We were able to continue on our weekend trip, but it was hard to walk past the back of the car. Plus, it sure reminded me of how nice cruise control is since that stopped working when the rear sensors were damaged.

Also, fuck people who drive without insurance. Did the guy get ticketed or anything? Glad you’re ok.

Wow surprised that’s 38 grand. Doesn’t look that bad. Solid car built like a tank! Reassuring. Enjoy it when it’s fixed. Cool feature I didn’t know about.

Hard to watch, but REALLY impressive how "well" the G70 still looks - it was a real hard impact.
I wouldn't have thought that the repair costs would be that high and that it would take that long, but I cross fingers you'll get back your lovely tank in no time :-) May this be your last crash ever |

arrrggggg..... it hurts indeed!
quick question, you didn't notice him at all and where just decelerating for the road, right? what i wonder is: the car (probably depending on some options) has some crash detecing and safety system. as it seems that the road ahead of you was free i believe that the car should have accelerated on it's own to reduce the impact. did you notice anything there? or the belt retracting or something just before the impact? thanks for sharing! |

You can get a diminished value claim regardless if you sell it or not. You need to fight for it a little, but if he has no
Insurance not sure if your uninsured motorist coverage would include diminished value |

Diminished value would be paid by the at fault insurance carrier, not your own insurance carrier. There is no need to sell your car first. There are experts who will examine your car and give you an estimate of the diminished value. The cost of that report is usually around $500. Based on my experience, the diminished value of your vehicle would be 10k or more. Factors such as age of vehicle, cost of vehicle, quality of repairs, etc. factor into diminished value.
Since the at fault driver did not carry insurance, the chances of getting diminished value directly from him are basically none as 99.9% of the time uninsured drivers don't have a pot to piss in. It's not as easy as garnishing his wages. He would have to sued, judgment obtained, judgment enforced without at fault driver filing for bankruptcy, etc. |

Just as an example, I was paid $5,000 in diminished value on my LS460 with this damage, isolated to the trunk lid and not impacting the quarter panels, this was $7,900 worth of damage. Yours is obviously much more extensive so I would say $10k even $15k in diminished value...

Guess I have my settings to not inform me with notifications when people comment. I'll update that.
I should probably look further into the diminished value situation. Lots of money potentially at stake. When the accident happened, we were approaching a construction zone. The car in front of me became confused about whether to go to the left or right of some traffic cones and the came to a nearly complete stop. I slowed down to avoid hitting them and was going maybe 10 mph. The guy behind me wasn't looking up at all and never slowed down. It's possible that my car might have seen the car approaching from the rear and wanted to accelerate to lessen/avoid the impact but, there was a car in front of me so that would have stopped my car from accelerating forward. I dropped my car off yesterday to start the repair work. Been 5.5 months since the accident but all the parts have arrived. I got a ceramic coating installed when it was brand new so I'll need get the coating replaced everywhere that new paint is added. What an ordeal and that video is definitely tough to watch. |

The other insurer will fight pretty hard against a diminished value claim but you have a good one with the car being so expensive and new. You may have to hire and pay for your own diminished value appraisal expert.

Depends on the insurance company. The guy who hit me had Erie, and they gave me no trouble at all. I even accepted their first offer because I thought it was fair.
