Replacing 19” I7 wheels………
My I7 xDrive60 is on order with 19” wheels. I’m a firm believer in smaller diameter wheels and did not want the 20’s or 21’s. That said, the 19’s are a bit ugly and I would like something a bit more traditional BMW looking, such as shown in this photo.
What are we thinking about needing special wheels for these very heavy, very high torque cars? |

Sreamliner, I'm on the same page as you. I'm also a firm believer in, and purchased my i7 with, the "smaller" (the average size for sedan wheels is actually 16"-18") 19" wheels for the increased range, improved ride comfort, potentially sharper handling -- and because too large is unnaturally obsessive and unattractive. While our G70's physical size might accept larger wheels more organically, some vehicles I see seem to be all-wheels and less car the same way some houses can be all-garage door and less home (Amadeus' "too many notes" conjecture, haha).
In any event, while I don't at all believe my wheels' aesthetics aren't pleasing, I also wouldn't mind hearing others' thoughts on replacements in the event I may care to swap them out one day. So... |

I went to the BMW.de German market website and on the I7 they offer a 19” wheel option which is not available in the USA. Not exactly what I had in mind, but not bad. Here is a photo, using their Konfigurator:

Here’s a real life photo. I guess these wheels were available in the USA in 2023? I think these look pretty nice. Much more of a traditional BMW look, at least to me.

Well, your examples certainly look nice. However, this is my first BMW so I'm not so conscious of what BMW wheels might traditionally look like. And as I said, I like my OEMs enough already. But I'll definitely consider others if I feel the upgrade is strikingly contrasting enough.
Otherwise I'd hoped this wouldn't be a conversation between just me (the BMW novice) and you and others with more BMW history would chime in with their thoughts. I'm also I'm cognizant of the fact that the 20/21-inchers are more popular and folks might not care as much about our, uh, "little" wheels. Of course necessity is the mother of invention. But in the end, in our capitalist society, if you want something bad enough and have the money, it will be available or made available. |

Stream, can I suggest waiting until you get your car and try out the wheels you have first? I think you might be surprised at how compliant the ride is at 20” even 21”. 19’s are tiny and this is a huge boxy car. I’m worried you car will dwarf these wheels you want. Much bigger looking and dimensions than your s560. Just a thought.

Yes. Wait for it. We have some units running on the 19 over here in Malaysia and the proportion looks off. The car is too big for a 19

Sorry. Reread your original post. Thought you were getting your own 19’s cause they weren’t available with your order. Having said that, maybe wait to see how they look for symmetry or proportion in person before you buy a second set of 19’s?

Just to chime in here, I am not a big fan of bigger wheels because here in NY we have lots of bad roads and potholes. BUT, the 20's on my 760ix have been extremely comfortable and while I had thoughts of going smaller when I was buying, after more than a year I have no regrets about the 20's.

I appreciate all the thoughts. I’ve never had an issue with the look of smaller diameter wheels. To me, the idea that a 19” will look too small, while a 20” will look better just doesn’t compute. To me, the look of tires with nice, deep sidewalls is a good look, as with this photo of my dream sports car. Anyway, I’m sticking with the 19’s.

19’s from a G12 750i should fit. I was always partial to these (650m?) wheels I had on my 2019.

A funny thing happened. I had mentioned here how I wasn’t all that thrilled with the 19” wheels coming on my I7 xDrive60 that is being finished as I write this. The lower screenshot shows the computer image of the car with the 19” wheels, the only ones available to order for 2024 in the USA.
A week or so after starting this thread, I go to “My Garage” on the BMWUSA site and, lo & behold, the wheels magically changed to the ones shown in the upper screenshot. These are the German Market ONLY wheels that I LIKE! I’m sure this is just a coincidence or some kind of computer hiccup, but how crazy is this? What do we think the chances are that the car actually gets delivered with the silver wheels??? Last edited by Streamliner; 06-09-2024 at 08:02 PM.. |

Anyone tried to see if they fit on the i7. Same bolt pattern of 5x112. Same Hub Bore at 66.6mm. Same Thread Size of M14 x 1.25 Different off-set range G12 is 23-27mm and G70 24-28mm Different ET Value G12 is 25 and G70 is 26 Does the Different Off-set Range and ET make a difference? Also What about the increased weight of the i7. i7 has GVWR of 7,615lbs while the G12 GVWR was 5,879lbs. That is a difference of almost 1,700lbs? |
