Maybe look at a LS swapped fd rx7?
they are gorgeous, balanced (even with the LS), you'll get the practicality of a corvette and exclusivity of the rx7.
I'm sure someone will probably say it, no its not murder if you have an rx7 without a rotary, some people like torque, some people like unreliable screaming engines, if you buy the car, its yours to do what ever you want with it to make you happy.
Two ?kit? cars that always sidetrack my search for old rustbuckets.

Although a 620 might be a wee bit of overkill and a windscreen might be handy.

I wonder if said Chevelle is going to be able to turn without a modern frame. If not, I probably wouldn't enjoy driving it as much as I'd like. So perhaps look at the modern fast cars that can also turn then I get the bons of plush interior. I doubt I'm getting a properly LS swapped + brakes etc + a modern frame for sub $40k resto mod Chevelle, but what do I know?!

Do up the suspension. The kits are there now. Unless it's an unmolested ls6, who cares.

I'd be looking for one that already has some upgraded suspension.

IMO you can put rack and pinion on the old cars, tubular A-arms, Delrin bushings, every other part, but in the end, it'll still drive and handle like an old car. That's why I don't have one.
Love the looks, hate the way they drive.
Also if you ever get into a crash, your body is going to take the hit, not the car. They weren't built with crumple zones back then.
Just a few things to think about.

I've had two of these cars and would have had a third one if things panned out correctly.
My first one didn't handle very well, but the latest one had 275s up front and 315s out back with H&R springs. That thing handled great with 561hp to the wheels.

My current plan is to keep looking for a rust free NA Miata & then buy another big RWD V8 toy after I buy another house.

Now I'm thinking that maybe I should just get an ND Miata instead of both of the above cars. My only concern is that I will still miss having big HP. Yes, I can boost the ND, but not willing to then go spend a few grand to have that done right.
