What cars today do you think will be the collector cars of tomorrow?

It's obvious that most supercars will due to their rarity. But what about some inexpensive cars? The '71 hemi 'Cuda, the '57 type 507, etc. Cars that mostly everyone could afford that will be worth 100 times their sticker in 40 years? Something with a sticker under $100,000.
One I'm thinking of would be a COPO Camaro or maybe the Z28 for example. Any others?

I like the cayman most of those for potential collectibility. The others are rare, but not rare enough.

The R version of the GT350 will be rare. There will not be enough of them to go around. That car is going to be the last of a dying bread. It will go down as one of naturally aspirated greats.

1M has already proven a good investment. They cost more than they were new. Anything with a BMW badge and M badge with only 740 total units will be rare.

Same goes for Laguna Seca Boss, there are only 750 of those driving around.

2016 BMW 435i ZHP. Only 100 will be made. That makes it more rare than an Enzo, LaFerrari, P1, 918...anything really.

But who the hell wants it, or cares...no disrespect. I don't even know what it is and if you line it up next to an Enzo, 98% of the people would choose the Enzo, I would.

Collectibles will be strange to gauge, things from 50 years ago are collectible today because in that era no one saved or preserved things, they actually used them, and they were never really special then.....
Nowadays, everyone is conscious of preservation, no one wants to drive in the rain, everyone is storing everything away, in the future there will be plenty of everything in pristine shape. All these "special editions" won't be special because the majority will have been kept pristine, what will likely be collectible is something not really popular or special today, possibly lacking in attention....thats the item that will raise in value.....something like the last gen Golf with the V6 engine that was lack lustre in performance....

And cars that are worth the most are the ones that evoque an emotion. The high HP cars of the 60s for example are expensive because there aren't many in good shape left and 50 somethings want to relive their high school dreams.

Exactly. Like the gold Zelda Nintendo game, things that people tossed thinking they were worthless eventually become more valuable for the same reason.

Personally, I think cars like fox-body mustangs and IROC-Zs are going to start going up in value and are super reasonable. I'm looking for something like a 1996 Mustang Cobra.

Yeah. I was thinking an '89:turbo Trans am or Buick gnx would be strong in 20 yrs.

The Buick GNX is already fetching pretty high dollars. An Acura NSX is always a good investment as well, if you're willing to pay the cost of entry.

Being that few were made, last 427 corvette, only 427 convertible of that generation with heritage...

It will no doubt be a collector in years to come.

i think the R35 GTR. because its the first GTR in the states, and only like 10k sold.

Its also a car that the current generation of young people really like. They are going to want that car in 10-30 years as it part of there growing up hero car.

My personal opinion is that cars have shifted from the times of the classics that now appreciate.

Cars today are so invested in technology with Bluetooth or wifi and who knows what else, they depreciate just like any other electronic device out there.

I think the only cars that will ever appreciate in the future will be limited production cars (like the 1M previously mentioned) and or cars that lack all of the "tech" which makes it outdated as soon as it goes off the lot.

Will be interesting to see what appreciates over the next several decades. Right now the only thing that comes to mind is the 1M but I can't say that in all fairness because it already is so hindsight is 20/20

i think there will be cars that will hold a certain percentage of their value brand new, but not many if any that will actually appreciate. cars like the 1m and manual gt3rs are likely contenders.

Considering I bought mine for $300 above invoice from a dealership which had two in their inventory for over 6 months...I wouldn't my breath.

That's because the stingray was coming out. Let 20, 30 years pass by and in my opinion, the C6 will age better than the C7 and then NA 427 will be a highly desirable engine.

My feedback to you would be to hold onto that car and keep it stock!

Potentially, Japanese imports of the 90s / early 2000s. They have a big fan base and those types of cars seem to be dwindling every year. Also, just like the muscle cars of the 60s/70s, the older generation 30 years from now may want those imports. Cars are becoming heavier and less 'raw' due to mass audience preference and government regulations, so I expect an uptick in prices. I know some of these are already on the verge of appreciating but you can still find some out there at a good price.

Good call on those... 3000GT VR4 is probably one of my favorite cars and I have no idea why. Neighbor of mine had one in white and I always thought it looked really good!
