I'm finding vastly different trade in and retail values online, and from what I see cars on Autotrader going for. I'd like to solicit feedback on a fair retail value and a fair trade in value.

2006 Acura TSX
Manual trans, no nav
Gray exterior, black interior
40,000 mostly highway miles
No accidents, service issues, etc
Maintained at the dealer with service records

You can't go by what they are selling for in magazines, subtract about $3-4,000 from that. I will go find out for you what I think a close trade-in value will be on your car. Is your car in MINT condition??? Anything wrong even minor will lower it by $1,000. I will be back in 5.

Heres an example for you. I had a 2007 Acura TL Type-S with the A-Spec body kit, tinted windows, mint condition, 5,000 miles. I got $30,500 on a trade in Aug 07. The cars MSRP was $38,900 plus $2,000 for the add-ons.

I see trade in values as low as $16,000, and then a nearly identical car for sale at $26,000. That's a big gap...

For a 2006 Acura TSX 4 door with 40,000 miles.

Trade-in Value is excellent cond. $15,950
good cond $14,915
fair cond $13,095

Retail is what dealers will sell them for in excellent condition. Your car with 40,000 miles in excellent cond will be on lots for $22,700.

If you sell yourself you should get $19,000 if its in excellent condition.

I think BMW will offer you about $15,000 for your car. I have been doing research on this same topic for a long time. And have traded in about 15 cars on new cars. My brother was a salesmam for many years so I am pretty good at this.

Did you see my post on the 8 month old Acura top of the line TL-S. That cars was $39k. I paid $36k new, and 8 months later with 5,000 miles and mint condition, plus I added $2,000 in add-ons. Acura A-Spec body kit and tinted windows. The car was LIKE BRAND NEW. I got $30,500 for the trade. And still owed $33k on it. I was upside-down. The problems is your high mileage for an 06. The ones at the dealers for $26k is a joke. They might get $23 if the car has low mileage. You can buy a NEW TSX for $27k.

I want to do ED and PDC on a 135, but not until this fall or next spring.

I would rate the TSX 9/10, that's a little conservative. I'll probably put it up for private sale and see what happens.

I am also ordering a 135i next Feb 09 for an April 09 delivery. I will probably trade-in my 07 Civic Si for $15,500. It will have about 17,000 miles next Feb. What options are you going to order?

I am ordering a 135i manual, Alpine white with Coral red and gloss black int. With sport, leather, premium hi-fi, heated seats, comfort access amd iPod/USB. I will demand $1,000 off MSRP and a minimum of $15,000 for my car. OR WALK OUT.

I think you should be able to sell your TSX for about $19,000 yourself, there nice cars. Good Luck.

I sold my 06 TSX 6mt/nav private party for $25,300 in September of '07. It had ~5,000 miles on it and was pretty much flawless. I think I paid $28,600 for it new 12 months before that.

In Atlanta, the market will inevitably be different. Prices will probably be lower on cars across the board in your part of the country compared to the west coast. Check your local advertisements...Craigslist, autotrader, local papers, etc. to get an idea of what people are trying to get for similar examples. Check Edmunds.com's TMV tool using the most accurate information you can.

Good deal. LUCKY in fact. Your car had only 5,000 miles vs. 40,000 and your car had nav, a $2,000 option. I think selling his car privately for $19-20k is possible, but not much more. Sorry.

Edmunds TMV says ~$21,500 for private party sale in excellent conditoin, which sounds a little optimistic to me. If you could get $20,500 for it you'd be doing pretty good in my opinion.

40,000 miles is high for an 06, manual trans has low resale values, and now since the TSX has changed significantly for 09, its not good...
