Dashboaard/Touch Screen/SatNav to be improvised?

Hi All,

I feel the dashboard and the sat nav / touch scrren needs to get improvised to match with Mercedes Sclass and Audi A8/A7 interiors. Your thoughts please.

Cheers,
Simon J

I'm not sure that's true. Yes there's always improvements but generally the iDrive is still rated as one of the best, if not best systems.

It's also touch screen, fast and well laid out. The dash while looking analogue is still all digital as well. Also BMW has I think by far the best HUD system which is a pretty key selling feature for me.

I mean over times they'll all improve them but I don't feel like BMW is lagging behind here really.

Indeed, if they just stiluck two big rectangular displays there like MB or added too much touch screen items many of us would move away from them...I love the current understated luxury look...

I think you mean "improved" but having compared MB system to BMW (I have not seen Audi), the BMW system -- for me -- is more intuitive and easier to use, and I agree also about the heads-up, which I now consider an essential safety item. Thus, IMHO, it is MB that needs to improve. The competition is good for we consumers.

I hate Mercedes system with a passion...
Rear shade located on the dash while side shades on the window controls.
Some seat controls on the doors while others inside the infotainment
a touch sensitive pad ABOVE the dial that you have to turn so I have a habbit of triggering the touch control while spinning the dials.
The infotainment takes away speed for...prettiness? they flood it with little animations and make certain pages such as setting to take forever to load. It's a system I cannot operate without looking at compared to the BMW system. My dad was blessed enough to have an w221 s63 and a w222 s550. Hated the s550. I was also thrown off by how weird the acoustics of the car were. If someone in the front seat was talking it would be so muffled to me in the back seat. Weirdest thing.

it was maddening to me that i needed to do like 5 mouse clicks/ maneuvers to just shut off the a/c (hvac) system. really? why not have just one button control ... like ‘off?’ ugh. so much happier with my 7 (after 25yrs of s-classes!).

.....Hold the lower fan speed button down....
Owners manual is quiet helpful.

I believe the previous poster was discussing how the Merc A/C was shut off...obviously on a 7 series you can simply press the fan button until it shuts the A/C off...is that the same in an S? (I seem to remember it wasn’t but maybe I’m wrong?)

Hope the OP will clarify but I think that they were expressing their frustration about simple things in the Merc being difficult compared to the 7...I’d certainly agree about that and using the sat nav being harder in the Merc...

bang on, pelo cat! i figured it wasn't worth clarifying. but - yes - i was trying to reply to the poster’s lamenting the merc’s difficult system by saying i find the 7’s is a lot easier to use than the latest s-class 222 chassis where there is no ‘off’ button. i had a 2015 s550, and it drove me nuts trying to just shut off the hvac. the 7 is so easy - just press and hold ‘off’ and bob’s your uncle.

You do realize that after pompously correcting the OP's grammar you made a far more egregious error in your last sentence, right?

Gee, thank you for the spanking. Did not intend to be pompous.
