Eating recommendations for Whistler Canada

Going to a convention there in June. Anyone have any experience eating around that area?

The Red Door Bistro is pretty damn good. A little pricey but worth it.

You’ll enjoy the drive up the mountain as well.

Great recommendation! Actually, that's the one reservation ive already made. Wish I got to drive to Whistler from Vancouver, but we're taking a shuttle. The price is right!

I was going to mention Red Door as well ... also, Araxi's always had a great rep (also pricey) and I've enjoyed meals there over the years. But, I haven't been in about 4 or 5 years, so I can't make that a current recommendation. Someone else might be able to weigh in.

You'll love it up there its really very beautiful, the people are terrific - that goes for 99.9% of Canadians.

They just talk funny and have this ice game called hockey or something like that.

Excellent! You will love it. Are you staying in the Whistler Village? I've been going up there every year for more years than I can recall. It's one of my favorite places in the world. Every July my entire company heads up there with spouses and kids for a 4-day weekend of fun. Nearly 150 of us going this year!

Anyway, let me know where you are staying, if you are after casual dining or high end, and I can give you some recommendations.

On the pricey side I Highly recommend bearfoot bistro. They have a -32C vodka room for vodka tasting, they’ll give you parka to wear to enter. They also let you Sabre a bottle of champagne. Hy steakhouse and Araxi are good as well.

For cheap/casual eats there are peak pie (small pie shop), element urban tapas, earls, keg and etc.

For brewery I recommend going to Whistler brewing. They usually have a few seasonal craft beer on the menu along with their usual selections.

Are you planning on doing any hikes? I can recommend a few amazing hikes around whistler and pemberton area. You’ll see some of the most amazing and beautiful scenery around there.

If you aspire to be the Village drunkard and find yourself stumbling around the Village at midnight like I usually do, then Zogs for a beaver tail or poutine is a must have. It will make you feel marginally better at the time but the next day you will certainly feel much, much worse. Also, drinking after a run at the Garibaldi Lift Company is a must.

Due to the large contingent of Aussies who work in Whistler, Peaked Pies are also a hangover go to.

I've wasted my life...

We are doing one day of hiking, would really appreciate some recommendations. For intermediate hikes.

MaximusB knows his Whistler!

I was going to say the same thing, if you are staying in or near the village. Araxi and Barefoot are excellent. Also agree that Whistler brewing is good.

If you like coffee and crave something better than Starbucks, I've only found one decent coffee shop in Whistler. Camp Coffee off Alpha Lake Road in Function Junction. They make a killer dirty chai.

This is one of my favorite hikes. It's very flat and easy. Don't expect an intermediate level workout, but it's all at creek level and the views are incredible. The destination, an old train derailment turned bike park, is really cool. You can pick up the trail head in Function Junction right behind a healthfood store called Olives, around the corner from Camp coffee. It's a great hike if you are sore/tired from a more challenging hike the day before (or hung over from Araxi's wine room the night before) and are looking to just stroll through the forest. https://www.whistler.com/blog/post/2...in-wreck-hike/

Hmm for intermediate day hike, I would suggest Joffre Lake. It is three lakes located at three different elevations. The first lake is at the parking level, then you hike maybe an hour and half uphill to the second lake, and finally another 30-45 minutes or so up to the third and last lake. The water at the second lake is turquoise and the third lake is dark blue from the glacier. Pack a light lunch and enjoy the surrounding once you’re at the very top. You can do a round trip including a lunch break in about 3-4 hours.

If you want to go for a longer hike then Garibaldi is excellent as well, but the hike to the lake at the top is kind of boring. Just zip zag along the mountain side going up the whole time with not much view. This will take you about 5-7 hours round trip including a lunch break at the top. Also near the top you can split off to black tusk and a few other trails, but doing those will require over night camp.

In June you’ll probably wanna bring a sweater or a light jacket because there will be snow and glaciers at the top.

I have been to Caramba (authentic pizza place) a couple times. It's been a while so I don't remember if the pizza was any good, but the experience overall was great. Lots of people, very festive, cozy atmosphere.

Oh and the massive lodge on Whistler Mountain has amazing poutine.

Man I'm missing it so much up there now. The drive from Vancouver through See 2 Sky hwy is majestic on a sunny northwest day, especially in the right car. It's good you are going in summer, I never enjoyed winters there as I hate cold, darkness, and am not a skiier (which would make up for it). The summer is PERFECT. Long days, flawless northwest weather (not a cloud in sight), perfect temps, endless activities to do...just amazing.
