Ac Shnitzer springs installed

Just got my springs installed and i thought I would share a few pics. Drops the car about an inch. They still need to settle a bit but i think its gonna end up being exactly where i want it. Next up, 20" Wheels.
Im not the best photographer so sorry for the crappy quality.

Not that much. Ive only had them on for about 300 miles and i havent noticed much of a difference in ride quality or in handling.

Awesome. thx for posting. Was waiting for someone to get a set installed. So I assume its front set of springs only, since the rear is self leveling?

Do you have a part # for the springs?

Cheers

These are the springs i installed. It shows four but thats only if you dont have the self leveling. If you have the self leveling its only the front 2 springs.

I'm thinking about lowering by AC Schnitzer springs also. My car (740d) doesn't have the self-leveling system, so i can fit 4 springs. Lowering is about 25mm, what is comparable to an optional BMW sport-suspension what i have now on my E60 530d. This lowering is a must when you choose 21" rims like i did...

So was your car reprogrammed to lower the car in the back or is the back still the same?!?

I think it would look a little funny if you drop the car in the front and the back stayed the same!

From what I was told, the self leveling suspension levels the car up or down so it lowers the rear if the front is lower. I have an email in to the engineers at AC Shnitzer to confirm this but thats what i was told when i bought the springs.

I might be wrong, but I thought that the self leveling suspension adjusts the ride height if the rear is too low, as in the more weight you have in the rear, the more the self leveling suspension will correct and adjust the height accordingly. I find it a little odd that the system would base it's adjustments on the height of the front suspension!?!
It may or may not take that into consideration, but I highly doubt that the system would base it solely on the front suspension!

Let us know what you hear back from AC Schnitzer if and when you get a reply from them.

From what they told me when i bought the springs, and i may have misunderstood, the car has 4 level sensors and uses all four to keep the car level by adjusting the back up and down.

I always forget the damn C

Very nice! Even a 1" drop makes a nice difference.

Which wheels are you planning on?

Just spoke to the engineers from Schintzer. He said they dont offer anything for the rear because with the 1" drop in the front, it gives the car an "aggressive" stance but if i did want to lower the rear, BMW has to reset the parameters for the rear leveling sensors. Spoke to BMW and they said its no problem to do that, but theyre not sure if the car will reset back to the original parameters when it goes thru a cycle. My wheels should he here end of this week and then im bringing it in for an alignment and ill let everyoine know how it goes.

Im going with 20" Beyern mesh in silver.

Thanks for the update.

I guess I was right in my assumption that the system would need to be reprogrammed (or reset) to lower the rear end of the car. I would assume that if you drop the rear end by one inch, that would impact the ride comfort for the rear passengers considerably, especially if the road is less than perfect and also depending on your driving style

Are you putting RFT or regular tires on your new rims?

You were right it does need to be reprogrammed. Im still not sure how much to drop it, but it will be less than inch. maybe about 20mm which is close to 3/4. My m5 is dropped slightly less in the front than the rear and i love that stance. Im not getting run flats. I figure with the new springs and one size bigger tire I wanna try and keep as much of the stock ride as possible so going to regular tires might help a bit. I did drive in a 750 that has stock 20" wheels with regular tires and there was a difference in ride between mine with 19s and run flats. His was alot smoother and less noisy.

My summer wheels are 20" RFT performance tires and they are quiet and the ride is smooth. Just remember that the car doesn't have a spot for a spare tire so you need to pack some sort of emergency kit
