750/740 engine update
Does any one know when the 7 series gets the same engines as the new 5 Series?

If I'm thinking of buying a car in that class (7), i expect at least the same engines as the class below (5)... even if there are more or less the same.

This is not correct. The B58 is an inline 6 and yes, it is in the 540 G30. However, the 750 is a V8, the N63tu2, and that engine is also used in the G30 M550.

Meant to say 740, not 750.

Yeah could be.
But how do you explain that the 5 series has more horsepower? For me that means the 5 series has an updated engine. |

They both use versions of the B58 engine in x40 guise. It's not a "could be." It's a fact.

I don't understand. If they were the same they would have the same horsepowers.
But the fact is the 540 has 335 HP (EU 340 HP) and the 740 has "only" 320 HP (326 HP), the M550 455 HP (462 HP) and the 750 "only" 445 HP (450 HP). |

The engines are exactly the same in both cars.
Read this info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_B58 Any of the #40i series are the all B58s. The new 5 series just has a new software, but physical engine is the same. |
