This is very disappointing, and it appears that the S-Class has already won this battle.

We get at least hope that it gets LED turn signal available, as Kia and other cheap cars have. Oh, wait.. it will be available for facelift in 2020.

Crap!
Agreed. The S Class has full LED lighting, no incandescent anywhere. Kia has full led lighting minus headlights and the K900 has FULL LED LIGHTING. The K900 is already so far ahead of the F01/2 it's insane, minus the botique name.
The G11 in no way will go toe to toe with the S class, it'll be lucky to have the appeal of an e class.

Even though it looks better than the 3 series center console, of course. But I much more preferred the center console design of the 5, 6 and current 7 series.
This really bothers me aswell..this and the touchscreen thing. Lame.

The interior layout of the VFL looks waay better.

Although it also looks like a 4 GC at first glance. The engineers might well have swapped the original 3D render with a mock-up for the test prototypes... Just like we've seen the old Audi TT rendered in the virtual cockpit of the new generation before the model was fully revealed.

It is ok. Not very impressed with the interior. But again BMW isn't know for setting the benchmark on interior design. Audi is. Hopefully the chassis won't disappoint and it will be lighter than the current generation.

One of my questions is...........how does the "normal" size person reach the touch screen at its location?
I mean, if you are the size of Shaq with a wing span of 8+ feet, Ok.
But the average person is not reaching that touch screen......
What i'm i missing

I know I know its the camo version not the completed final version, but I will say I am disappointment. Not because I dont like the F01 interior, I actually like it a lot, but this new interior from what it seems, again is really nice but just an evolution on the current 7, which is pretty close to the 5. The new S Class interior is actually making me like and consider an MB for the first time. Its just amazing in person. The 7 is nice but its really not in the same class as the S.

As for the touch screen, I am against it. I would rather have a touch pad like the new eNBT has, or a slightly larger pad. I dont like touching the screen on cars, they are too far away and they look like garbage the second you touch them.

I am hopeful for the 7, I am sure it will be nice, but not nice enough.

I am a huge BMW fan and have never ever liked MB, BUT......I don't care if they cover this entire interior with wood and leather, I think it will fall short of the s-class interior. MB just did an amazing job on the s-class interior it's as if they were aiming for Rolls or Bentley rather than anything in its existing price point.

Wow, these comments are insane for a car that is clearly still in development and under heavy camo.

Here is a thought, what if this dash is just out of a 5er, slotted into the 7er mule for some early testing?

Calm down already.

The G11 7 Series has now been spied out and about with a production-level interior. The biggest change that we can now see compared to the previous sighting is new iDrive software. The screen shows a never before seen iDrive menu and we now also see the climate control display and controller layout.

And the biggest shocker is that the new iDrive screen will be a touchscreen! Per BMW insider Scott26:

Quote:
This is the all-new iDrive with touch-screen the high level versions also receive passenger display like the Vision Future Luxury.
This technology will also filter down to the entry 1er.
Previous Updates:

The next generation 7 Series is due next year and while prototypes have been spotted since early 2013, the interior has not been seen until now. The major interior changes seen so far are:

Floating (non-integrated) iDrive screen
Fully digital gauges
Elevated control panel (shifter / iDrive knob) in center console
Larger shifter

Of course this is still a prototype, so what we see here is also in preproduction form, and portions of it may change for the production model.

Our previous info on the G11 7 Series:

It's no secret that BMW has been on the forefront of weight reduction in volume production vehicles. Starting with their tie-up SGL Group and development of the BMW i vehicles, they have been finding great use for carbon fibre in weight reduction. The key to this is carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). While this highly touted material is being used in the BMW i vehicles, it has yet to make its way into a series production BMW, until now...

And so it makes sense that the BMW 7-Series (usually the most cutting edge and forward looking BMW on the tech front) will be the first series vehicle to use this magical material in key areas to reduce weight, and thereby increase efficiency. As the use of this material will be a key selling point for the new model, it makes sense that the exact weight savings will remain guarded information until we are closer to the full reveal.

Speaking at the 94th Annual General Meeting of BMW AG in Munich in May 2014, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG again confirmed that the next generation 7 Series (G11) will make use of carbon fiber in its construction:

"BMW i is the spearhead of innovation within the company, with lightweight construction playing a central role. We are now also applying this expertise to other series models. Customers already appreciate the carbon-fibre roofs in our BMW M models. I can also reveal that we will use carbon fibre in the next BMW 7 Series. Its low weight will set a very high standard for the segment."

The 7 Series prototype now appears to wear all the production parts underneath. This car is now fitted with parts previously missing, such as a production quality polished and stylized dual oval exhaust recessed into a properly cut rear bumper, production side skirts, front bumper and large kidney grills. Fans of cohesive styling will also rejoice, it seems the hood cut line runs along with the kidney grills and headlights.

A Hot 7?
While what we see here is a "standard" 7-Series, there have been persistent rumors that this upcoming G11 7er will be the first to usher in the ///M treatment, in the form of ///M Performance. The exact engine configuration and power-output on the would be performance model is still in the realm of guesswork, but all signs have been pointing to an M770i xDrive variant. When more solid word comes, we will let you know!

Slated as a 2016 model, the next 7-Series will fall under the G11 chassis code and will likely be shown off sometime in 2015.

Noooo! Touch screen? Ugh, I bet it locks while the car is moving too.

This design is deliberate to empower the i8 at the expense of the soul of the 7. Every Mile you put on this g11 you will be shamed into not being more environmentally conscious and driving the i8.

The message here is that buying the seven is no longer the flagship.

Actually you're right, it's prob not even a 7 series. It's prob the new Mini Countryman. My bad.

The 7 hasn't measured up to the S class in quite some time, this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone to be completely honest. They are also nowhere near in price point. 7 STARTS at $74K, whereas the S Class STARTS at $92K. BMW hasn't had a S Class competitor in a long time. Whole different league that S Class...

With that said, I too also am not fond of touchscreen. The OCD in me hates the fingerprints. Glad they are still retaining the touchpad.

Finally, BMW has always been to me, considered; "Sport with a dash of Luxury". MB has always been "Luxury with a dash of Sport" (mostly in AMG trim of course )

MB has made much more improvements in the "sport" section, while continuing to develop the spit and polish of their vehicles. It just depends on the consumer, what's more important to you?

Disappointed. I will keep my F01 for many years to come and buy an MB SL500 next to it.

This segment appeals to me in no way.

However based on looks alone and pictures I've seen and comparing the current 7.

My money would be better spent on the Mercedes.

And lately, this applies every class not just the 7.
