Recommend me a daily driver

My 135i lease is up and I have decided to turn in the keys.It was a wonderful car but I am not 100% satisfied with shifting a Boosted car.My wife is going to have the 7 or the new X5 for the family.I plan to buy a cayman S once the initial bugs are ironed out[meanwhile hoping for a cayman GTS].For the time being I am looking for a no nonsense daily driver which would second as an all weather car.I prefer to keep it simple and in the ~30-40k[ preferably].I was wondering if some of you could suggest some.

Prerequisites:
1. Reliable..I am going to buy it and plan to keep it for years.
2. Safe
3.AWD...the weather around here though mild, roads are not plowed and i drive north of the border quite frequently.
4.4 doors
5.Simple and nonflashy[I prefer that for my work]

The only thing that hits all the points is a Subaru.I have no experience with subaru at all. Owned a couple of Hondas/Acuras in the past with no issues .The allroad from audi was a contender but that stupid steering and the 2.0 in the front are turn offs.

Any suggestions from personal experience/research would be appreciated.

Personally I have tried to have a less expensive daily driver to beat up, I bought a couple used BMW's, an older 335i which suited me well but I really like the send to car feature that the new iDrive has had for years now, so I got an X3. Now I like the 7's so much, and don't like to have anything different, so the 7's are my daily.

Have you looked at the VW Tiguan and/or the Ford Explorer? The new Fords pack a lot of tech for the money, not sure how well they held up but I invested in Ford and it hasn't been a bad decision yet....
