BMW 9-series being considered?

"According to the latest rumors around BMW, the company is currently considering a flagship 9-Series Coupe.
If green-lighted, the model will reportedly be based on the next-gen Rolls-Royce Phantom with CFRP for the passenger cell. The design conception has not been approved yet but it is believed the car will be influenced by the Vision Future Luxury Concept.

The engine range will likely consists of familiar 3.0-liter petrol and diesel engines, a more powerful 4.4-liter V8 turbocharged unit and a hybrid powerplant in the 940e version.

Targeted mainly to customers in USA, China and the UK, the model is believed to be a direct competitor for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe."

I certainly hope so, if influenced by the VFL. Also, hopefully spawn a 4-door coupe variant.

I remember Scott said a while back that the next gen 6 series will be influenced by the VFL aswell, but maybe to a lesser degree? I wonder when we will see the first mules for the next 6, its about time for them to hit the road isnt?

I mean, both the 5 and 6 had very close LCI unveilings, and for some time we have been seeing 5 series test mules, but no sign of the 6.

I hope it ends up being more sporty looking than the s class coupe. Something on the lines of the gran lusso concept.

There will be a formal announcement on the 9er in early 2016.
We have identified a strong customer base for a purely exclusive and individual BMW that will not only rejuvenate the passenger but also satisfy the driver.

Actually, I was thinking, does BMW needs something more luxurious than the 7? Will the 9/8 be even bigger and heavier or it will have a more sportier lightweight approach?

Seriously? And what about the "promised" M2 Gran Coupé (F20 generation)? You guys are killing me...

Selling an 8/9 series that is exclusively BMW individual and made to order is an interesting concept and one that I think makes sense for the highest end consumer.

The concept sketch looks good.

Yes. Strategically on paper under "Gene Sequencing" there is an 8er family considered that consists of Coupe,Cabrio and Gran Coupe to match the 4er,6er and eventually the 2er that will also bring a Coupe, Cabrio and a Gran Coupe offering choice in the enthusiast prospective compact segment for the next generation.

The BMW Gran Coupe models increase the practical and luxury aspect over the sportier Coupe models.
It took two years but The 6er Gran Coupe outsells both Coupe and Cabrio models. The 4er Gran Coupe is over a year on the market and is doing well but the demographic is somewhat different.

The next 6er is much sharper and combines design ideas from the Vision Future Luxury and CSL Hommage in a progressive form that identifies with the E9 CS and E24 6er but with sharper detailing.
The engineering utilises BMWs Carbon Core technology but with additional CFRP in the floor plan allowing a further drop in weight. Its based on a development of the upcoming BMW-Toyota joint architecture which will be announced soon.
Again the 6er will be presented as a Coupe , Cabrio and Gran Coupe.

Is that a official sketch? If so, looks pretty good. Except of course the Kia grill.

BMWs now will feature that blacked out area not only to feature optional equipment but also forge a design link with original BMW features.

They conceal the camera but also align with the headlight line so it resembles 7ers like the E23 and E32.
In real life it is unnoticeable and neither concerning. Ask Adrian.

We are stateside at the moment doing some evaluations and testing eDrive vehicles including the next 5er and X3 prototypes and Power eDrive configurations which will be available in the upper segment of BMWs and already I have been ICE'd twice.

So, you're saying the (M)2 Gran Coupé F20 Generation is official dead. The CEO has changed his mind? I don't get it... why...
