I would tip $20, and ask if you could park it. If your car looks like you take great pride in it, Washed/Waxed, no dents/dings, clean interior, the valet will understand and take care of you. If your not allowed to self park it, the attendant will park your car in a good spot. Trust me. It's the one's that brag about their car, and say " Take care of it, and put it in a good spot." Then stiff you. Now would you listen, and do what the owner asked? I think NOT... Valet is like any other service industry. You take care of them $$, they take of you.Trust me.

I don't know why people respond to GT HRV. He's a beginner troll. Just some advice, slow roll the trolls to hook more fish. You jump out way too strong and don't get nearly as much play as you can. I like your passion though!

Valet parking? Tipping? I'd rather walk. Those extra 500 steps could help me lose a few lbs too. I need to stop making American looks thin.

lol the guy said he owns a 50k car but tips 500 bucks. Idk how anyone took that seriously.

But when I was staying in DC it was valet only. I told the manager that's not happening. They complained but I told them no one is driving my car. Then they conceded and opened the garage for me. What a bunch of fuckers.

Apply for a million dollar loan, get rejected, and use the $25 gift card as a tip? :

Last weekend I spent a week away at a really nice hotel that offered valet parking. it was $25 to park your car per day and the value of my car is $50,000 so i would just pass the valet attendant 5 $100 bills. I did this twice per day everyday for 7 days so you do the math.

Thats the proper ettiquette in valet tipping, if its too much for you then park your crappy car on the opposite street
I don't often laugh out loud while reading this forum, but that did it for me. Thank you for that.

Ive been tipped with a fleamarket admission card, a kiss, a piece of gum, and an expired wendys milkshake coupon before. (Not valet) i was happy with any amount of cash honestly.

I have heard too many valet horror stories though.. i would make them sign a notorized document agrreeing that if they mess up your car they have to compensate you for damages/troubles and your entire stay.

They will probably tell you to park your car yourself at that point. Win-win situation

I try to avoid valet if at all possible. I'd rather tip the guy and have him point me to where I can park it myself. Valets are a 3rd party company so if something happens you can't even take action against the place that has it. Such bullshit.

That being said I was just on vacation at a mandatory valet hotel.i had a rental so really didn't care. Tipped 2-5 bucks each time on top of the 20 dollar a day fee.

i8 - Restaurant - Park it in front, walk up the the valet and give him a 20 without breaking stride.
Hotel - Park it in front, walk up to the valet and ask where the outlet is for my charger, plug it in, give him 20 and tell him/her to make certain no one trips over the cord.
M6 - See above, no plug.

No need to tip. It's a service provided by the hotel that you are already paying for and it doesn't make sense to tip them.

fuck em. Back in the day I had my M5 valet parked whilst staying at a hotel for a weekend, my car came back with over 40 unaccounted for miles, they gave me some bullshit about having to move my car to another parking area 20 miles away, they didn't even replace the petrol they used.

I've got no problem having my cars valet-parked or "valet cleaned". I mean, we don't stay or dine at shady establishments, so my BMW or Mercs are't "joyride bait" compared to the other cars there - even if that were a concern.

If I want the car out front, for whatever reason - I'm in a mood, or my wife will be returning to it to feed baby, or me to retrieve biz items... Then I'll give the guy £20 or £50 when I leave it and just ask nicely and explain why I'd like it nearby.

If all goes smoothly, I'll probably extend another £20 when we leave with a handshake.

A related thing that I do often, is have the cars valet-cleaned when we shop at Brent Cross, Bicester Village, or the like. It's a small reward for me. For only like £80, they typically do a very good job, if you pay for all of the extras - inside and out. So, while my wife is dragging me around shops buy things we don't need or should be purchasing on Amazon anyway, while I drive the baby's pushchair around mindlessly eagerly anticipating the 2 pints I'll get to drink when we take a lunch break.... I know that my car is being treated to a spa session outside in the multi-story car park.

For my lifted FJ cruiser I tip a $20 since I know it will not fit in their parking garage at which point the valet person would rather keep the $20 for themselves and leave it up front rather than tell me it is to large for their garage. Nothing like having your muddied up 4x4 parked up front of a posh hotel right next to all the exotics... haha

This post reminded me of when we took my MIL and Grand-MIL to The Dorchester on Park Lane for afternoon tea earlier this year after the birth of my youngest daughter. Couldn't fathom why those chose to park our ML350 up front amongst those other cars! (pics attached)
It had not place in that club. lol

They couldn't have known the jewelry and bags my old Chinese ladies were wearing eclipsed the value of my Merc a few times over.. ha. Maybe it was because the baby was so cute.
