Transmission valvebody/mechatronics died?

My tranny turned to self preservation mode a few days back and won't shift anymore. Car only has 15k miles since new and preliminary diagnosis by dealer is a defective Valve Body/Mechatronics !

My car has no symptoms, no jerks, no slipping, no nothing the error msg just popped up. Very very disappointed

Sorry to hear. Shame on BMW.

Is this a known problem? Should we expect same?

Covered under warranty? If not, how much to fix?

And how long do they estimate a repair to take?

Thanks for sharing.

This has been a known defect on early Mercedes 7G Tronic trannies, but as I had googled Bmw Mechatronics there are a lot of threads about this in the 3 and 5 series forums.

Bmw mechatronics in laymans term is "valve body" or the mechanical/electrical brain of the transmission. It usually takes 2 hours to remove/install as it does not require tranny removal, you just need to lift the car and work underneath.

Bad thing is this part costs $2500-3000, and realoem says its a "rebuilt component" at that so there must be a lot that's failing but never discussed on this forum. Bmw part does not list a brand new component at this point
