Here's good old Steve giving it a go...

I agree, the new M5 will have to be special...AWD version definitely needs something similar to the "drift mode" in the Merc.

I wonder how close these will get to 3 seconds or below and trap speeds.

Going below 3 for either of these would be pretty astonishing...but I don't see it happening...

Any clue what the new Panamera Turbo S does it in...or have they even shown the S yet? I would think that it would still be the fastest sedan.

I bet they all will dip in 2.8-3.1 range.. no reason why they can't... if you think about it they are underrated and with the current generation of trannies, launch control, tires.. no reason

The somewhat long in the tooth RS7 plus with 605 is at 3.3 and its last gen stuff.

The new Panamera is such a huge step forward, looks wise. Its the first time i'll take the Panamera over everything else in its class.. especially the long wheelbase version. M5 would be next, E class looks to similar to the C class... Im not a fan of the proportions of the rear half of the E class.

As much as I love AMG engines and sounds, I just can't get over the looks of the E class. They had the E class looking great before this new chassis and now it looks like a piece of crap. Disappointed with all the new Mercedes styling, I can't seem to like any of their new designs except for possibly the AMG GTR

Unfortunately you are right, the new 5 looks like a mini 7 just as much as the new E and C look like mini S class. I feel Mercededs and BMW are following a Starbucks them of Petite/Grande/Vente approach... At least the 5 looks decent as opposed to the new E which to my eyes looks disproportionate and hideous.

I'd take the upcoming M5 over this thing any day of the week. Maybe It's just me but I hate Merc's current design language that resembles melting jelly beans wearing moustaches. I was head over heels for the previous generation of angry looking mercs but the ones they're putting out now do nothing for me. I don't think the 4.0 sounds as good as the 5.5 either after hearing them side by side in person.

But seriously, these cars are around 500lbs too heavy IMO. I'd like to think technology is advanced enough that these could be made around 4000lbs....

It's pretty heavy. Not a huge fan of the look either since the regular E-class is so luxury-oriented in its styling. The new 5er already looks sporty so creating an ///M out of it will be seamless.
