Good review.

On a side note, I can't help but think about how recently the Audi S8 put the B7 to shame in the performance figures...

Great review, he did a good job.

I love that car! I can't imagine owning one post warranty though.

seems like a really cool car - i would def take it over an S8.

of course the concept of a LWB "driver's car" doesn't really make sense. i was largely under the impression that people requiring a LWB car usually sit in the back and have chauffer's. but there is a market for everything.

Slowly it seems that the reign of BMW is coming to an end. The F01/02 and F07/10/11 chassis are not that great. They are heavy, less driver involving and just too big.

Audi and even Benz are catching up. The way things are going, in a few years they will pass BMW as better driver tools.

I loved the way the E9X drove, but all the new cars from Munich are way too big, heavy and soft. They really need to rectify this image if they want to keep enthusiasts happy. Going for the larger part of the pie dilutes their image and their heritage. I however do understand that auto manufacturers need to make more money to be able to invest in purist automobiles, but that has only held true for the likes of Porsche, nit a mainstream manufacturer like BMW. I don't think there is ANY model in their lineup that harks back to the pure driving pleasure like that of the E30/ E36 or even the E39 M5.

The S8 is overall a better car. Too bad design wise it is the Audi equivalent of the BMW 1 Series, in oder words the ugliest car in the line-up.

+1

Hopefully that will change with the next generation, that will both look good and drive good. Looking forward to the next generation 7 Series with CF/Alu chassis.

Excellent review. He covered all the things I'd want to know before buying such a car.

Much as I found the review informative, the thing I liked best is hearing how to pronounce that man's name. I'd seen it for years in the car magazine and had not the first clue of how to say his first or last name. So if nothing else, TY for that.

I think its exclusivity and badass-ness are the only real attractions this car has. I love it but given the chance, can't see myself picking this over, say, an S63.

The one they tested with the S8 was rear wheel drive and did 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and the S8 did it in 3,7 sec. But the one in this video has xdrive(allrad) and did it in 3.8 seconds so i would say they are pretty close.

I couldnt agree more with you Tony about how his name is pronounced. For years I have said "Saba Sare" or some variation of the pronunciation of that. How he said it is nowhere near what I thought in my head for years reading his magazine. Crazy.

The 135i / 1M is the closest we get and they're killing it off. That's why I'm going to try and keep my n54 and hope I don't get stung with too many costly repairs. It going to be difficult holding on to a car that costs a grand to change a headlight...

Good video however didn't he mention that there is a sport mode on the auto box which Alpina has modified the software making changing gear just few hundred milliseconds which is comparable even to the best twin-clutch transmissions!

On the other review comparing the Audi S8 the sport mode was not mentioned also, perhaps if the sport mode was used in the review would this may have provided a more favourable to Alpina

as a new owner of a 2013 B7 I think the review was very accurate. I owned three S8's before, all of which I loved. But I love the B7 too, a very special car.
