G12 = 740i/750i, not 740Li/750Li now?

Why is the G12 named 740i/750i and not 740Li/750Li now in the US?

"Li" designation continues throughout the rest of the world.

Because the G11 isn't available in the US, no reason to make the nomenclature more confusing / less meaningful.

Should've just named the models 740/750 in-line with any objective of simplification.

I haven't like BMW's naming scheme ever since they changed the number to where they don't match the displacement.

The "i" designation has been a hallmark for BMW denoting fuel injected.

Every car has it and now that there is no longer a long wheel base, having it after the number fits into their standard naming scheme.

Problem is that the G11 short wheelbase exists everywhere else in the world.

BMW should've ditched the "L" internationally and named both short and long wheelbase models 740i/750i. Less confusing than "i" meaning long wheelbase stateside, but short internationally. Going from 750i/750Li to 750i stateside makes the model seem lesser here.

Further complicating matters, there's the i3 and i8 as well; nothing to do with fuel injection, but a play on iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Yes, but I also see the other side. If there is an "L", then the next question is where is the short wheel base.

The average buyer knows nothing about the rest of the world.

US has had 750iL and 760Li for years with no short wheelbase offering of same.

Highly inconsistent having 750i in the US equaling 750Li for the rest of the world along with the lesser 750i.

Missed mark and should've removed "Li" and "i" all together, as Mercedes did having gone from 500SE/500SEL to S500.
