The end is coming…
The CPO runs on the Alpina in October, and I’ve decided that it would be a good time to try something new. It’s a fun/great/unique car, but it’s a labor of love and I’m getting off the wagon.
Ordered a 2022 Tesla Model S Plaid. Original delivery window was June 11 to August 11 but now Sept 11 to Nov 11. It’ll be different for sure. |

That was pretty short.
Why the dramatic change to a Tesla and why not a Taycan? Most lawyers don’t drive more than 100 miles a day. |

Also, my wife wants us to get an EV, so she’s actually tickled with me about my automotive decision making for a change. Will be nice for her to embrace my car rather than the opposite. LOL. I would truly love a Taycan, but the range is too limited for my needs. Yes, daily work day is fine; but I have 3 kids all going to various colleges and grad schools, between 2 and 7 hours away. I wanted a car that I could take with only one “recharge” stop, not two. Taycan is rated at 225 miles. Plaid is 348. The 100 difference means only one charge stop for most our weekend travel needs. I’m ready to try something else other than BMW. And while Elon Musk is a lunatic, he is a good bit ahead of the EV market with range and charging stations. Doubt I will love it or keep forever. But it’s the car which is “up next” for me.

I went out for lunch yesterday and let one of my guys drive me in his 2018 (I think) Tesla Model S. He bought it from his Dad because Dad bought a plaid. He still hasn't driven it yet, but is afraid to because then he'll want one.
Anyway... I test drove a couple of Model S (esses?) years ago and found them wanting for various reasons. This later edition rides better, seems to be put together better and the dashboard looks much nicer. It's still difficult (for me) to get in and out of, with that wide door sill. And I think for that kind of money, it should be more luxurious, as I've been spoiled with my BMWs. And I have range anxiety. Of course, like the OP, I also have Alpina anxiety, which is a small but constant nagging fear that something is going to go wrong, and in an expensive way. My car is out of warranty and I decided against buying the extended platinum gold plated diamond encrusted warranty offered by BMW, so now I just drive with my fingers crossed. LOL

Alpina-specific parts are more expensive than "regular" BMW stuff, not that I expect any of that stuff to fail. I was really trying more for humor than accuracy.

I agree. There’s just no comparison. I remember jumping to Lexus to save money about 13 years ago. I sold it in 4 months and came right back to BMW. I think Law Guy will go to a Taycan or come back to bmw in 8 months.
