Exclamation 2016 7 Series (G11) Reveals New Laser L Headlight Design!

BIMMERPOST NEWS
2016 7 Series (G11) Reveals New Laser L Headlight Design

COMMENTS

Updated September 14, 2014 with new pics and info.

We share with you a first look at the G11 7 Series production laser headlights! As you can see, the new L-shaped laser lights are inspired by the recent BMW concept cars such as the Vision Future Luxury Concept, X4 Concept, 4 Series Concept and present a fresh and modern evolution of the BMW corona rings / angel eyes. As our recent info revealed, LED lights will be standard on the new 7 Series while the laser lights are optional (both are pictured in the photos below). We'll also likely see models that come after the next 7 Series begin to share similar headlight styling in one form or another.

The new L-headlights are paired with wide kidney grilles and a hood cutline which joins the top of the kidney grilles, presenting a front end look that's already sportier than the current 7 Series.

While the tail lights remain completely covered and camouflaged, they will be more squared off and angular compared to the current 7 Series.

Besides new headlight technology, the next 7 Series will feature a new interior (photos reposted below) and also represent the first substantial use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic in a series production BMW.

Speaking at the 94th Annual General Meeting of BMW AG in Munich in May 2014, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG again confirmed that the next generation 7 Series (G11) will make use of carbon fiber in its construction:

"BMW i is the spearhead of innovation within the company, with lightweight construction playing a central role. We are now also applying this expertise to other series models. Customers already appreciate the carbon-fibre roofs in our BMW M models. I can also reveal that we will use carbon fibre in the next BMW 7 Series. Its low weight will set a very high standard for the segment."

The G11 7 Series is due next year.

I think BMW is starting to go crazy with the headlight changes.

Anyway I'm glad the 7 is the guinea pig. It was the first with the square white halo's and those looked really weak but improved once the other models began to have them implemented. The current LED angels on the 4, 5, and 6 are menacing.

Let's hope there's a real departure in the interior design from the rest of the lineup. If it wants to stack up with the A8 and S-Class, it needs a focus on luxury, not the luxury/sport 3/5-Series +1 look.

While not a 7er customer, nice to see the design language in the hoodline back to the kidneys rather than set back like the f series cars. Maybe this will trickle down to lower series in G models. Newly released XC90 has this "traditional" hoodline into the grille also, dispelling the Euro pedestrian crash rumors.

Does appear like the recently spied 6 series facelift also features these L-shaped cutaway headlights (Autocar image)? Looked fantastic on the 4 series and X4 concepts.

I hope so too but I highly doubt it. I'm sure it's going to be an improvement over the F01 but I don't see BMW doing a drastic change like Mercedes did to the S-Class. BMW has been playing it way pretty safe and I don't expect too much with the G11. What I do expect is it to be packed with technology though.

Some of the best news here is that the hood line is going to be in line with the lights and the grill.

Well this is a MUST for the line in the future.
I mean look at the new Challanger Hello Kitty, and the Camaro,
these cars blatantly rip on the Corona Rings.

There must be no other direction for those cars as far as lighting is concerned, so they must copy the rings.

I just hope to goodness the USDOT approves these cars laser lights for models in the future after the i8, or BMW make the retrofit plausible. Not having to rewire the entire car, because of course guys will be retrofitting laser lights to cars destined for the US one way or another.

BMW cracks me up sometimes. That headlight looks like a prehistoric axe or club to me.

All the best.
