My life is so peaceful without Instagram and Facebook. I keep my FB so I can keep in touch with family back home, but I don't go on for anything else. I'd deactivate it completely, but I need it to woo the ladies on Tinder.

i just wrote an app for facebook; ebola tracker. it'll let you know if you're within 25 meters and if you're a match.

that doesn't even make sense.

Nice. Exactly the type of nonsense gtRon that I was looking for on this Friday of a long weekend.

At least its a long weekend. Happy thanksgiving to myself and the approximate 4 other Canadians on this site.

I have both, the main reason is just to keep in touch with family members over seas. Also, i like knowing some of the new trends going on. I dont watch TV so i use social media to keep myself up date.

My niece came with son and I to breakfast Friday. She ordered the bacon waffles, but barely touched them. She said she felt ill. We ordered her some OJ and then proceeded to tell her all the horrible pain she would suffer thru if it were ebola. Apparently my son continued this all day thru social media at school.

I'm proud to say my prodding, however vicious, motivated her immune system and she was fine by Saturday night.

But there is West Nile in the local community here. Will have to check her on that one next.

^^ From that article.....which has a SUPER misleading title.

Quote:
JB: Yet everyone is worried about Ebola going airborne...

PJ: You're seeing all these patients getting infected, so people think there must be aerosol spread. Certainly, it's very clear that people who are in close contact with patients are getting a very high incidence of disease and not all of that can be explained by preparation of bodies for burial and all the standard stuff. But if you are to assume that the differences in virus load detected in the blood are reflected by differences in virus load spread by body secretions, then maybe it's a simple quantitative difference. There's just more virus.
Quote:
JB: Can you entertain the air-borne hypothesis. Do you think it's plausible?

PJ: You can argue that any time the virus replicates it's going to mutate. So there is a potential for the thing to acquire an aerogenic property but that would have to be a dramatic change. When scientists have done studies, playing with influenza strains to make them more virulent, when they increase the aerosol potential of a flu strain, they also reduce its virulence. So when you start messing with viruses, you usually make them less virulent.
Quote:
JB: Why are you optimistic about this epidemic burning out?

PJ: In this epidemic, it would appear that there have been multiple introductions [of the virus from animals to humans]. It's not all person to person transmission. It's coming from animals again and again. [This means people need to be near potential animal hosts — believed to be fruit bats endemic to Africa — to get the virus.] Now there are all these different strains. That could also mean the virus is more mutable. We can't yet say. I think it's unlikely that this thing is going to perpetuate in humans.

Ebola nurse William Pooley well enough for bacon sandwiches - British nurse William Pooley is 'doing well' and eating 'bacon butties' his father Robin has said.

(The news is from a while ago, but I think it's important to note that bacon was part of his recovery process)

Was going to post a good news/bad news thread about that. Gas prices are below $3/gal, which is good, but Wall Street has assumed the glide path of a brick, which is very bad for my retirement accounts. I don't think the lower gas prices will make up for that. Not by a long shot.
