problem with automatic side mirrors going down in reverse

does anyone notice whether their side mirrors sometimes fail to go down when you engage the car in reverse? I noticed that mines have a mind of their own that they sometimes go down and sometimes do not regardless if the side mirror button is setup for that mirror to go down. Furthermore, there are times when the passenger's side mirror goes down in reverse, while the button is set on the driver's side in the case of me pulling into a driver's side parrallel parking space.

anyone notice this?

My understanding is that only the passenger side mirror...

goes down in the US models. That, too, only if the side mirror adjustment switch is on the left side (towards the driver's side mirror). The passenger side mirror will not go down if the side mirror adjustment switch is on the right (passenger) side. My understanding is that you cannot get the driver's side mirror to go down (when in reverse) automatically.

Hope this explains the mystery...

bayarea328xit is correct. The 'Automatic Curb Monitor' only applies to the passenger side mirror and is activated if the mirror select switch is switched towards the driver side and engages automatically once you put the transmission into reverse. Switching the mirror select switch towards the passenger side deactivates this feature.

I've never had any issues with this feature on my car.
