"Integrated Key" (Remote Control with Key - QTY 2) and "Spare Key" (QTY 1). Note that the spare key is not a valet key. The valet key is only the Remote (with the metal key removed from it)

That way valets cannot unlock the center console... and the truck lock switch in it.

The spare key is fully functional and can even start the car when placed directly against the steering column for several seconds.

Two keys should be standard with or without comfort access! You can also get additional keys if you need more. But the dealer should definitely give you two keys to your car!

Your car will only accept two keys at a time.

Remember: those are not valet keys. They are fully functional spares.

That's incorrect. The car can save settings for up to 3 different remote controls (keys)!

If you go into the profile menu, you can also change the label of each profile as well as import or export all your current settings to a USB stick (via the USB socket in the glove compartment) for backup purposes.

That's right, this is NOT a valet key, unless you want to give them full access to the trunk and your center console

hi everyone,

To go along with the new car we ordered a spare key, assuming it would be able to start the car. Dealer says we are first ones in US to order key for it. However, after recieving the key the dealer or us cannot get it to start using the spare key. They are going to check with BMW to make sure it can. In the mean time, I wanted to confirm with you all that the spare key should start the car.

Thanks,

Jblackbelt

I've never tried it - but you are supposed to hold the key against the key icon on the steering wheel column for 10 seconds, then press Start/Stop with your foot on the brake.

I would love to - except I'm still waiting to get mine back from my European Delivery... the car gets to the dealer tomorrow night and then goes in for bumper repair.

If I recall correctly, the dealer needs to program the key first to make it work with your car. I would assume that they would have to do the same on the car so that the car and the key are 'aware' of each other. The spare key should allow you to start the car. See hayden's comment on that above. The manual also explains this in detail. You can also download an electronic version if you follow this link:

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/dgh.aspx

Hope this helps.

the owners manual for the 2010s do not include the spare keys so they do not list anything about them in the manual.
