Ynguldyn, thanks for the update. Interesting as usual.

Nothing in your crystal ball about electric models? iX3? i4?

Unfit for purpose

This is drives a wedge through the very being of the M5 as multi role vehicle and one that needs to have comfort as a basic reason of existence as much as performance.

This car should be offered with magneto dampers which offer better response and comfort performance in my opinion.

I remembered in a past update, you mentioned something about the G30:

  • Under the same assumption, 540i, M550i, and US 530i will be re-engined in 07/19.
So maybe it could be as soon next July? That would mean that everything - 5, 7, 8, X5, X6, X7 - would have the new N63 TU3 by mid next year. Then the only unknowns left for that engine would be a possible G32 M650i model at some point, and the rumored X8 which, if it is coming (I'd give it a 99% ), is probably at least 3 or 4 years out (might even be an "H" generation product).
All the existing Vehicles with N63TU2's have to be sold to retail consumers before Sep 1 in every regulatory area where EU6c RDE and WLTP is applicable until PPF incorporation is completed and certified for sale. The US and a small number of small countries will be the only markets that can utilize them for several months (along with some other vehicle/engine combinations). Next week, staggered production suspensions begin.

I really can't say. Right now I don't see the new 540i and M550i in the pipeline, where they should be if they're to be released in next July. I would give it another month or two - if I still don't see them, then it's November at the earliest.

And this is where the old equation of "EOP of older model + 1 month == SOP of newer model" breaks - WLTP has forced BMW to stop model production before the replacement models are ready.

That's not how AWD works. Go into a corner too hot, RWD or AWD, traction loss is still traction loss. AWD helps in mid-corner grip and exit when it you are accelerating. It's not magically going to make you stick to the road better during braking or cornering. You will be able to accelerate out sooner in a corner, or recover easier from an error... that's it. You won't be entering that corner any faster. Take a high performance driving school like another poster suggested. There's nothing more tragic than a AWD going off the side of the road because the driver thought AWD means stickier tires.

Here's what AWD does for you when you're too hot into a corner:

answer: squat

It exists, but given the lack of progress it might just die on the vine.

I don't know what you mean by "more". Production - 2019. Specifications - you already know. Spyshots - not my specialty.

Am I reading the info correctly; the 4GC will disappear 7/20 with no replacement?

Yeah, I added the update in two batches - had a whole lot of info to analyze and find the real news in the noise. There should be quite a few G06's on the roads in a month or so. I guarantee we'll have good spy shots soon.

Speaking of all these V8 beasts, when’s the M550i going to get the upgrade?

The biggest question in my mind is the M550 going to get the steering and chassis improvements from the M850, based on the first drives the M850 xdrive is joining bmws return to form on steering feedback and chassis balance

I'm not so sure. I think they'll do the same thing as they did with the 5GT, and try to merge both GC and GT, obviously with no success as seen with the 6GT.

There was never a plan to merge 5GT and 6GC.

Maybe not, but the 5GT is gone and according to your own posts, the F06 will stop production and GC nomenclature will then be absorbed
by the 8 Series line. I think we can all agree that the 5GT became the 6GT regardless of a plan. What remains now is all that really matters.

So does the GC become a GT again here?
Is the G26 a 4 Series GT or a GC?

What remains now is a successor to 5GT and a soon-to-come successor to 6GC. Two different cars.

The 6er GT should still have been called the 5er GT.
I don't see anything that elevates it. It looks like a 5er more than the previous which straddled along the lines of a 7er.

G26 is a separate entity from G24. There is a need to offer balance within that segment especially for niche practical sport coupes like the 4er.
This time around there will more focus on expanding the car to sit between not just the 3er but the GT and the i4.
And if you all behave you might be treated to the first M4 Gran Coupe?
Depending on whether you can appreciate the new direction of the 4er with its baby-8 looks and THAT FACIA as it will be highly controversial....Delicious.

Cant wait for the first 4er prototype pop out and we'll see what we are dealing with. Probably something along the lines of that csl concept.

Thanks, Scott. If I'm reading you correctly, BMW will keep the 2 separate chassis codes (G24>GC) & (G26>GT).
Was unsure of this as I hadn't seen a post on it for some time.

My understanding of the codes is that G24 will be the GT, G26 will be Gran Coupe, just like F34 is GT and F36 is GC.
