I saw a frozen Black one on Market Street in Philly. The driver put the pedal to the floor off a light, the rear hunched down and it flew... cool car. Not the best place to demonstrate its power but I enjoyed it.

Doug is fine. Some videos are better than others. I'd like his job good luck to him!

That makes sense because they’re of the same series.

IMO the E65 LCI was the last great 7-series. Incredibly handsome car with a significant road presence. It was low and wide whereas the F01 and G11 are like generic looking boats. They've got the kidneys, they've got the angel eyes, they've got the Hofmeister, but they are just so forgettable.

The E65 LCI still looks modern to this day. BMW could put it in a showroom right now and it would sell.

I'm not familiar with the current 3 series, but when did the 3 series get seats with independently adjustable upper backs (in 7 series since the E38)? How about ventilated, heated and massage function in the rear seats with position adjustment? Digital rear climate controls and electric sunshades all the way around? Does the 3 at least have soft close doors? How about a isolated cabin that's super quiet? Come on man... A 5 series would've been a better comparison by far.

Doug does a great review! Biggest car fan on YouTube by far. I hope he keeps it going. I don't always agree- but his passion is unbridled.

I fully speced an Alpina B7 xDrive V8 TT; came to $155K USD. Same HP/torque; Compelling alternative IMO, if this is what floats your boat.

Also a great car. Interestingly Motoman has reviewed both and the cars are somewhat different even with same outputs. The M760Li is a bit more comfortable and refined vs the B7, the B7 feels a bit quicker and sporty.

As an example the M760Li makes peak torque around 1,500rpm, the B7 is more around 3,000rpm I believe. That's the V12 and larger capacity at work for you. However it's a heavier car so loses out dynamically a bit.

Great video, thanks for sharing it.

Safe travels.
The laser lights are, in fact, illegal in the United States. It's one of the only parts of the i8 that I actually think are cool, and we can't get it

Cheers

Good review and great car. I'm a little jealous that it beat out the Panamera Turbo (which I own) as the top sedan "Doug Score". 70 vs 69. Grrrrrrr.

In fairness there's almost nothing in it, the Panamera is an amazing car as well.

I don't see the harm in low volume gas guzzler cars. It's more an issue in cars that sell by the millions.

Exactly. Like the Ford F-150, and other full size pickup truck abominations that haul nothing but air and the driver every day on US highways.

In fairness fuel is so cheap in the US it allows pretty much anyone to have a huge engine sized vehicles. The car companies hence don't need to invest that heavily in fuel economy, weight savings, etc because it's simply not worth it. Average folk can afford to run these vehicles without issue.

If they taxed fuel a bit more you'd likely soon see a drop in the size of cars and their engines. The Ford Mustang V8 is available in the UK and it's not that expensive a car. It still doesn't sell that well because even if people could afford to buy it, not many could afford the fuel costs of running it. Not looked into the figures but suspect it's close to the M760Li with it's V12 because Ford don't need to optimise their engine much to sell it in the US, BMW need to meet very strict regulations so have little choice.

P.S. I'm not saying they should tax you all more. I love your big engine car culture in the US. Just mentioning why I feel the car markets differ somewhat between the US and Europe. It's the fuel costs and also size of roads forcing most of us away from larger vehicles.

Pretty cool, my dealer has one in the showroom... but at $180K, it won't end up in my garage. If I had that kind of cash, I'd spend it on a Porsche.

Most people in the UK don't buy the car outright but finance it in a PCP deal. The BMW M760Li at say £135k costs roughly half the amount in the monthly payment as a £135k Porsche. The reason being the deal BMW offers with heavy discount and 0% APR. Porsche on the other hand offer no discounts and not amazing APR payments.

So in reality you could probably have a £135k BMW for the same amount as a £70k - £80k Porsche. For me that's a no brainer, I'd rather have the BMW as your getting a better car for the same money.
