Ricciardo has constantly shown to be the quicker driver this season. You have to be blind not to see that. It has nothing to do with reliability or finishing the race. Lap for lap, Ricciardo has been turning quicker laps.

I think the next generation of world champion contenders will be Riccairdo and Bottas. They've shown they are capable to challenge and win races given the right circumstances and car.

Because him and Rosberg, regardless of what has happened this season, are friends. They don't hate each other like Senna and Prost did.

I think there is also a ton less tolerance for those antics these days. Hamilton is also a very stand up athlete and would rather lose with dignity.

Hamilton has to play fair - Rosberg

Look who's talking???

Nico Rosberg has told title rival Lewis Hamilton to keep his racing clean as the two go head-to-head for the championship at the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

Rosberg is 17 points behind Hamilton, but in with a shot at the title if he wins Sunday's race and his team-mate finishes outside the top two positions. Mercedes has been the dominant force this year, with 11 one-two finishes, meaning Rosberg needs an unusual result to stand a chance of winning his first title.

The battle between the two has intensified as the season has progressed, with the major flashpoint coming at the Belgian Grand Prix when Rosberg made contact with Hamilton while trying to overtake. Hamilton believes ground rules have been set since then in order to avoid a repeat and there is nothing more he can do to ensure that, but in Thursday's press conference ahead of the race weekend Rosberg issued a very public reminder to his rival.

"Lewis can do something to keep it clean, which is drive cleanly himself," he said. "So it's not like he can't do anything."

Rosberg is optimistic he stands a good chance this weekend, saying the Williams - the second fastest car at recent races - could get in the mix with a good start.

"A lot of things can happen and it can happen as easily as a Williams having a great start and slotting in between us two," Rosberg added. "This track is one of the most difficult to overtake, we were looking at that this morning - the speed difference that you need to have to overtake the guy in front is really very big at this track. That would be one opportunity, for example. There are many scenarios, but as I say, I'm optimistic.

"I wouldn't use the word pressure, but it's going to be an intense weekend and a great battle, so I'll look forward to it. That's what I've been working towards for a while now to have a chance here and Lewis is a great competitor and opponent and it will be hopefully a great end to the season. I'm here to try and win the race, but I then need a bit of help from Lewis so that he doesn't finish second. That's it - I'm hoping Lewis can come up with something."

Grosjean hit with 20-place grid penalty

LMFAO!!!

Romain Grosjean has been hit with a 20-place grid penalty at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is likely to also result in time penalties during the race.

Lotus fitted a new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), a new Turbocharger (TC) and a Motor Generator Unit -Heat (MGU-H) to his car, all of which were the sixth components of their type used by Grosjean this year. Under the regulations drivers are only allowed to use five of each engine component in their car over the season and using more incurs penalties.

The first time a sixth component is fitted the driver receives a 10-place penalty and each sixth component after that incurs a five-place penalty. As a result, Grosjean's total grid penalty adds up to 20, meaning he will start last on the grid.

But that bad news does not end there for Grosjean as power unit grid penalties that are not fully served (because the driver is closer to the back of the grid than the amount of penalty positions he incurs) are carried over to the next event. As Abu Dhabi is the final event, the FIA have ruled that any remaining grid positions will be served via time penalties during the race.

1-5 unserved grid positions will result in a five-second time penalty, 6-10 unserved positions will result in a 10-second time penalty and 11-20 will result in a drive-through penalty. Given the performance of the Lotus this season, it is unlikely Grosjean will break into the top ten which would result in a drive-through penalty during the race.

Very Similar Front wing on the McLaren this weekend to Red Bull.
Of course former Red Bull aerodynamist Peter Prodromou officially joined McLaren sometime this season.

McLaren is looking stronger though and both drivers F1 future on the line so JB is a dark horse. A good dose of wishful thinking maybe since I hope he will be Alonso's wingman next year.

Red Bulls excluded from qualifying due to illegal front wing

Didn't see that coming. I thought it was just cornering weight shift caused the wing to scrape the ground.

Quote:
Both Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel have been excluded from qualifying and sent to the back of the grid at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after the stewards declared Red Bull's front wing illegal.

FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer reported the team to the stewards when he discovered that the front wing flaps had been designed to flex under aerodynamic load. After meeting with Red Bull representatives, the stewards agreed that the flaps were in breach of Article 3.15, which bans moveable aerodynamics designed to give an advantage.

The Red Bulls will be allowed to start from the back of the grid. The team accepted its punishment but believes it has been singled out.

"Following the decision of the stewards regarding the front wings on both our cars (Car 1 and Car 3), we are disappointed that we have been singled out for a front wing deflection test when it is clear that other teams are interpreting the rules in a similar fashion, " read a short statement. "The team accepts the decision of the stewards and will start the race from the back of the grid."

Was funny to watch the Rosberg crew and fam/friends celebrating early about his pole position. In fact, looked like the whole Mercedes pit was celebrating the fact that Rosberg was on pole and not Hamilton.

Will be interesting to watch this on Sunday.
