Heated steering wheel problems

My 2000 740iL heated steering wheel stopped working. Worked fine until recently. Now when I push the switch the small green light comes on for a second or two and then goes out. Was told it could be a bad steering wheel circuit or the switch. I changed both the steering wheel and the switch (used parts from a parts car) but still having the same problem. Dont know where to go from here other than spend the big bucks and have the BMW dealer look at it. Does ayone have any idaes?

I say if you want the feature to work, spend the bucks to have BMW fix it. Thanks for the heads-up about the flaky nature of these things. I have that option in my car as well (a 2012). Here's hoping they used the 12 year gap to sort out the problems
