Pre-Owned 16's Already Selling in The $60k's

Just sayin... I was discussing this subject with my buddy recently who is considering a new 7 among other cars.

This example is a CPO car. Without that, another $5k-$6k off.

I believe 16's will be had for @ $60k by the end of next Summer which is pretty substantial depreciation.

Here depreciation on 7 or S class has always been huge.
Yet allocations for 7 Series are very hard to come buy as they are all sold months and months in advance. BMW says the factory cannot give us enough allocations due to demand worldwide.

Less than a year after BMW introduced the latest iteration of its flagship 7-Series, a roomy sedan that can park itself via remote control, the automaker has quietly conceded that it landed with a thud.
Just four years ago, the 7-Series was at parity with its Mercedes rival. Today, sales have fallen 40 percent below those of the S-Class and are only slightly ahead of Tesla Motors Inc.’s Model S. Next year will be even tougher for the 7-Series, with Audi poised to introduce a self-driving version of its A8 flagship. BMW’s aim with new variants is to pull even with the leader again, according to the person familiar with its plans.

Internally, BMW has blamed the 7-Series’s slow sales on too few technological advances and boring design, a person familiar with the plans said. Features such as gesture control, which uses up to five different hand signals for functions like radio volume, haven’t ignited the same customer interest as the likes of Tesla’s Autopilot. And the 7-Series doesn’t offer the variants available in the S-Class, which comes in six different versions, including a convertible and an ultra-luxury model called the Maybach.

BMW will also bring out a competitor in the range above 150,000 euros ($170,000), development chief Klaus Froehlich told Automotive News this year. That would be roughly the same price category as the Maybach.

Think all you owners are smart enough not to buy a 7-series for their resale value.
Anyway, friends have the Tesla with Ludicrous and S-class in all kinds of configurations, though it was at a drive and ride at my BMW dealership on some windy long downhill roads that revealed how much better a luxury car the 7-Series is.
I would actually revel in the chance to have a 7-Series as my early Sunday morning bonzai drive - the car is as close to perfect I've ever driven.

Don't give a crap. I never buy for resale anyway. I buy as an investment in my soul, not the hardware. LOVE driving my 2016 G12

I don't buy for "resale" either. But I also don't buy to lose my a$$ either!

The bar charts show 7 series sales improving over 2014. They have actually stayed in a fairly narrow range for many years. MB appears to have broken open and expanded the category. Tesla improving but we don't know whose sales they are taking. I don't see the data as a disaster for anyone but it is a triumph for MB.

went to trade in my 2016 g11 with nearly every option except m brakes with 21k miles...........so sad..........was only valued at 76k, sticker on my car was 126k....it took a dramatic dump in a year, that was the same dealership i bought it from too....at least my new pre owned maybach already depreciated enough before i hopped in it

$50k drop on ANY vehicle purchase within a year is outrageous!

This is exactly why if I insisted on new, I'd have to lease. Otherwise, Pre-Owned for me FTW. Of course, I respect those who have the expendable cash.

I agree that lease is the way to go with these cars. When I mentioned to my financial advisor that I was getting a 750ix, he said "You didn't buy it, did you?"
I also have come to think of these cars as computers on wheels, and prefer to stay in warranty for the duration of my "ownership."
