Chris Harris - can he actually drive a corner without throwing out the ass?
In every video he throws out the ass and shows he can drift, but we all know that is not the fastest way around a corner. Is he actually capable of taking the corner properly or is he so used to throwing out the ass in every video that's all he knows at this point lol.

It's funny you should say this, I was watching a Chris Harris video the other day and was wondering the same thing. He was driving he AMG GTs, and then watched Clarkson driving the same car and he was going on about how well it handled for an AMG and did very little driving. He actually said that it was the first AMG he'd driven and only used one set of tires. I suspect that the audience wants to see tires get shredded.

He regularly takes part in motor racing events particularly endurance racing so I'd say he's pretty sharp.
Big slides make for fun films and it shows in his enjoyment so that's why he does it. |

Powerslide versus fastest cornering speed - I always wonder how fast they're cornering in Harris's vids because they do a lot of filming techniques that accentuate the speed. I like fast corners with a little four wheel drift.
In this video at the 4:40 minute mark that's my expectation of maximum cornering speed and recovery (to some extent). Now in this video with no guardrail and plenty of runoff at the 2:25 minute mark . It's great cornering but look how much time and how many correction. |

I watched the first episode of Drive this morning, Chris Harris is in the McLaren P1 at Abu Dabi. He does the usual drifting but near the end when the hosts are debriefing the episode he admits that the car is meant to go around corners without drifting and that the engineers cringe but the drifting shots sells cars.

The OP's comment is akin to asking Giancarlo Stanton if all he can do is hit home runs 450 feet. Or David Beckham if all he can do is bend a ball into an upper corner. Or LeBron James if all he can do is dunk.
Come on. Do research. Find out yourself. Or, if your aim is to be snarky for snark's sake, at least endeavor to do a better snark job. It's an art.

People want to see powersliding and drifting in videos, not a car going around a corner.
Of course he's a very capable driver.

Harris has quipped about his drift-aholism being for video appeal. Others are correct on this point. He's a sharp guy who searches for unique and thought-provoking story angles, and then spices them with some fine banter.

Blame the idiots that want to see cars drifting, not the driver.

All I'm saying, is that hitting turns at the limits of what a car is capable of is amazing to watch. Watch those videos from Saudi Arabia where they have incredible car control. Really are very few exceptional car review videos where the journalist post awesome cornering or car control. Randy Pobst doing fast laps is one of the few but his video's quality are mediocre. |

The OP's question asks if Chris Harris can actually take corners properly and drive fast. He can, and well -- and all three analogies I make above are of players who are extremely capable overall in their disciplines, not just so-called 'one-trick ponies' like these from the above sports: Home runs: Jose Canseco Scoring goals from set pieces: Juninho (Pernambucano) Dunking: Shaquille O'Neal

Sliding a car around a corner says a lot about how balanced a car is at/over the limits. Pretty sure it's part of his litmus test. Oh and it looks awesome too.

Yes, he can take a car around a track without breaking the rears loose.
Here he is taking a Ferrari 250 LM through its paces at this year's Goodwood Revival. |

His reviews are actually entertaining. There is a video of him in a 4 series I thinks were he tries to not drift it but then it got so boring he had to drift it.
I respect his opinion of a car more than those pansy ass, Brown nose reviewers that say the same shit over and over. |
