New 750 no backup camera!! HELP!

My friend has taken delivery of his new 750Li and the car did not come with a back up camera... got every option except camera package or just rear view cam.
My question is, does anyone know of a way that we can add a back-up cam to the car and not have it look all cheap and after market. He is really pissed and I would like to help out. Many thanks in advance!!!

Why would he buy without at least the rear view camera? There is no simple plug n play solution for retrofitting the camera(s) that I know of. I'm sure you could have a rear camera installed and have the display monitor integrated into the interior rear-view mirror.

I don't want to even ponder what hacking into this new IDrive system would be like

I always wonder why people buy a car like this and skimp out on an option that is only a few hundred bucks anyway... and then in the end get pissed they don't have it?!?

Anyway, I'm sure the rear view camera can be retrofitted to the car. I don't have the parts database installed right now so I can't look it up, but I am sure he can go to his dealership and get the part numbers for the rear view camera retrofit. He would have to have it installed by the dealership as it would require reprogramming or coding of the iDrive system. I'm also pretty sure that this will cost him more than if he would have picked the option when he placed the order originally!

There are also alternative ways of getting a retrofit kit like this (online sellers like active rover or something along those lines). But it will still require programming the iDrive system by his dealership, but this might be a cheaper way to go about adding the oem rear view camera to the car.

Yet another way would be using an aftermarket camera package, but IMHO, adding an extra display to the interior of the this car would look pretty bad, not to mention those displays are rather small (especially compared to the 10.25" iDrive screen!).

Guys,

Its not because he skimped out or got cheap. Its because the company that supplies BMW did not have the neccessary components in order to manufacture the cameras. All of the new 2011 7 Series that are being produced will not have camera package until the September build. Its a fact.

The ActiveHybrid 7's and the 760's are the only models being built with the Sideview/Topview cameras along with the rear view/backup camera

although I thought that the Backup camera was still being built with all the other 7er's

Correct me if im wrong

I believe the seller dealer was not totally clear concerning the status of the camera package. Rear view was not pulled. Side and top cameras were pulled except for certain models and order dates.

From what I had heard, the backup camera and side-view camera was still supplied in 2011 models, but the top-view camera package will only become available starting with the September production run. Basically the same as the 2009/2010 models.

In other words, if your friend got the car without ANY camera, then he got screwed or was misinformed by his dealer as at least the back-up camera SHOULD have been available!
He should have ordered the car with the camera package. If the factory is unable to provide a particular option for whatever reason, they would have contacted him to make him aware of it. But from the sounds of it, the camera package was never specified in the order?!?

The simple answer is that they had to have the car "NOW" and that is what they had in stock... we have looked into the BMW center integration but it seems you need a different wiring harness.?.?.?..this is turning into a real PITA.... *sigh*
