Sorry to necro this old thread, I've been away from these forums forever!

Aside from your WiFi routers, check your devices. WiFi devices B N and G have longer range, A N and G can transfer more data, more quickly.

If you can set your WiFi routers to run in only N or G, you'll get improved data transfer and good range.

A only will give good data transfer speeds, B has better range than A.

Most WiFi routers are configured to run in Compatibility Mode by default, meaning it auto configures itself ABGN, basically B range and speed, but usable by A G and N devices.

If you don't have any devices can only run A or B, go ahead and switch to G or N. I did this for my parents', and my father's setup in his garage went from 11 Mbps to 32 Mbps over WiFi!

Getting a proper 24-port PoE switch but this is what I had lying around... Works for the time being.

Very much so, I ran the 10/100 version for 8 years before upgrading to a managed Cisco 24Gb one. My 10/100 never did a single thing wrong and was running for 8 years constantly.

Very nice. I see you didn't opt for a patch panel. I assume by the two different colored cables you have two drops at each wall outlet.

Correct, opted for no patch panel as I wasn't sure if it was something I'd really need once I got my switch in place. And the cables are nicely terminated/labeled as you can see. I have two drops at each wall outlet, and they are labeled accordingly. However, the different colored cables mean either direct burial or non-direct burial. Black is the direct burial. The blue is the "regular" cat 6.

Not sure mate. I had a TP Link one picked out and thought it would go on Black Friday special, but it didn't. I am about to pull the trigger on my new Hikvisions and will probably buy a new PC/switch at the same time.

Which Hikvisions are you looking to get? It seems there are a new set of Hikvision PTZs with IR/night vision capabilities coming out. If they're as good as the Dahua, I might ahve to pull the trigger on it. I just found out a feature of some PTZs which will make it easier for me to get a PTZ which is auto tracking. I'm not sure how good the auto tracking implementations are. It's a shame I can't correspond with the guy responsible for Network Camera Critic. I was browsing through the site and found a post where his family announced his sudden passing earlier this year. The guy was a wealth of information....truely a great loss.

On another note with PoE switches, I have to find time to migrate off of the Dell Networking N3024P switch to the bigger N3048P. I need to do this soon as I'm about out of ports on the N3024P and I would like to put the 2 port 10GbaseT module online. I have another project where I want to spin up a storage array which can support iSCSI over 10GbaseT.

I'll be buying them all through LTS. I'm done messing with Chinese cameras. Too much of a risk, and Hikvision has been cracking down on Aliexpress sellers.

So far, thinking a turret, two bullets, and two cubes. That's in addition to the dome and the bullet I already have.

And yes, the Networking Camera Critic was an amazing site. Very unfortunate that the writer passed away. I heard they're getting someone to replace him, but not sure if that's happened yet.

I need to look for a new PC also. Been eyeing the Dell XPS 8900. Sighthound runs OK on my older Dell, but adding the above cameras will bring it down to its knees.

I'm looking at my options too. One of my Hikvision cube cameras decided to stop responding to HTTPS connections. Can't figure out why. I'm a bit scared to do a factory default to see if that fixes the problem since it's the Chinese version flashed with English firmware. Wrightwood Surveillance where I bought them from just changed management and said they'll be looking to move to the full English versions once they deplete their current stock of Chinese version cameras.

And this is exactly why the two Chinese ones I have now were fun, but I won't be relying on them any longer moving forward. LTS isn't that much more expensive, but their support and warranty are top notch.

Are you going to get the cameras directly from LTS or do you have a source to get them?
