Enhanced Bluetooth w/o Tech package

I test drove the M235 the other day. It didn't have the Tech package, which is fine with me. But I noticed that the sticker listed the Enhanced USB and BT option. The description on configurator seems to link that option specifically to Nav, which this car didn't have.

I did do a forum search, but couldn't find anything specific as to why the Enhanced USB/BT would be on a vehicle without Nav/Tech. Does anyone have any information?

The one thing I can add is that I brought along my iPod Nano to evaluate the H/K, and the CA was surprised when album art popped up on the smaller screen. Could that have been due to the Enhanced USB?

yes, after 08/2014 there is new basic headunit which can do things, previously unavailable on entry headunit

Just think that the "enhanced bt" option is standard on a lowlife $14k toyota for the last 5 yrs. About time.

Thanks. I guess I might try to find another car w/o Tech/Nav but also w/o Enhanced USB/BT, plug in the Nano and see if album art appears. I'll be ordering a 2016 2 series in a couple months, don't want Tech/Nav but it's nice to see album art, etc., when available. If that requires the Enhanced option, I'd add that.

This chaps my ass that it doesn't come with the Premium package at least. My car is a Mar 14' build and it doesn't have it. I'm guessing I could try and find a later head unit and swap it in and then code my car but IDK if it's worth the hassle. My Kia Minivan can play music over the BT connection but my BMW can't. My wife was rather amused by that.

For whatever reason, BMW is always late to these sorts of parties. I used to love seeing late model E38s come into my shop with cassette decks still in them. The flagship sedan of its time, and you had to pay extra for an in-dash CD player that came standard on a $15,000 Civic EX.

FWIW, I just took delivery of a 2015 M235i (6/2015 build) that does not have Tech/Nav and also does not have USB/BT. It plays audio over BT just fine.

I also have a Nano hooked up to the USB port and the album art does show up.

Are you able to see album art when playing via Bluetooth?

You can just code the EBT you don't need a different HU

It is not standard on the 2015. Music streaming is but EBT comes with Office and a second mic and ability to pair two phones.
In my 2016 X3 it standard though.

It's been awhile since I've tried it (I prefer the USB connection for sound), but I don't think so.
