When I was in elementary school a home computer was the size of a home.

The first computer I used was an NCR 50 with punched cards, then a PDP 11/70 with 300 baud dial-up modem and a dumb terminal. I was going to build my own computer in college, the kind with toggle switches and lights for I/O, but got sidetracked. My first PC was an Olivetti with two 5¼" floppy drives, 640KB of main memory using an Intel 8088 processor and I upgraded to a color monitor that did a whopping 16 colors. I would have bought a Macintosh II but they were twice as expensive as the PC and I didn't want to be held hostage to Apple Corporation for the software.

There's nothing quite as exhilarating and loading and running your first computer program using punched cards.

I wasnt able to buy the new intel mac because it wasnt out and I really didnt want to buy firs year problems. In a few years, I'll probably get the Mac. If not for that stupid magnetic power plug...it would be perfect.

Interesting results so far. Since Macs have about 6% marketshare these days it suggests that forum members are perhaps 5 times more enlightened than the average guy on the street

I started off on an Apple IIe, with an Applecat dial-up modem, and used them all through college. When I went to law school I switched to PC, and I've been using PCs ever since.

What's wrong with the magnetic plug?
Just yesterday I was using my MacBook while plugged in, when one of my co-workers not paying attention walked right into my powercord. The cord broke free without moving the MacBook at all. Works great. Saved my co-workers life too.

BTW, I've only ever owned a Mac.

I cannot vote because i have both. The poll does not ask what I prefer but what i have, and I have both. Need to add another choice.

I thought they had 4%?

Its not a good comparison since the total market share takes into account businesses, of which 95% probably run Microcrap.

A friend has one, I sat down on her couch, it unplugged. I moved on the couch, it unplugged. I got my drink, it unplugged. You get the point.

If you use it strictly for desks, it might be an amazing thing. I do not. I have yet to have any cord tripping / killing problems with my Dells in the past 9 years.
