Yes and no....

Kobe was a different player from HS - straight to the NBA and had a NBA talent genetic family, well traveled and played much of his youth in Europe in a much different style of play/coaching...

Jordan was cut as a sophomore from the HS team....played in a controlled team first system in college under Dean....NBA allowed Jordan to demonstrate all his physical tools for several years, but had to learn to win against superior teams with talent at every position...

Don't get me wrong - I'd take Jordan 10 out of 10 times to build my team, but I'd pick Kobe to take the game winning shot....

TD is the greatest PF to every play the game, but not the same talent as MJ or KB...

Individual talent , yes TD is not as great as mj , but as a complete player he is on a different plane than Bryant.
Kobe isn't exactly known as an efficient player, nor a lock down defender

pikkagtr - I had the pleasure of watching TD play in college all for years. Simply amazing how he could dominate a game with just 15 points and 10 rebounds...

IMO - greatness is remembered in rings, and MJ has 6, TD and KB have 5.....but the GOAT is Russell with 11

Not lock down but he's average to above average though. Just like duncan.

Putting Kobe and TD in the same defensive category just shows how ignorant you are.
TD has been the spurs anchor on defense for a little over 17 yrs.
They are not in the same breath or even the same planet .
TD is #1 in career playoff blocks and currently the active leader in blocks as well .
Please take a moment and research before posting mindless gibberish

You are comparing a guards defense to a power forward. Guards get steals deflections now days even blocks. Forwards protect the rim. They are not lock down defenders, not saying kobes a lock down defender but hes average to above average. Td is a good rim protector. Deandre jordan, tyson chandler, they are excellent rim protectors. Why would you ask someone to do research, I play the game and understand it quite well. No need for you to get personal over the internet.

Oh yeah I forgot about bron bron definitely above average lockdown/rim protector when he wants to be.

If I had to build a team, I would start with TD. Yes, MJ is the GOAT. And, even though I'm a huge Kobe fan, it's hard building a team around Kobe; Kobe's a bit of a cancer on mediocre teams, but he can really shine when given an above average team. MJ can certainly take over games and still make his team better, even on average teams. But TD can dominate the 10-foot space around the rim on both ends of the floor. And I'm not even a TD or Spurs fan, but I can appreciate greatness when I see it.

Last second shot? MJ first. I would even put Robert Horry or Derek Fisher before Kobe. BUT, I would put Kobe over RH or DF if they were all on the same team, since the defense would have to respect those other two and couldn't triple-team Kobe.

And Greatest athlete of all time? Jim Thorpe. No question about it.
