Actually, I believe that is a camera. The car has double screens on the dashboard and on each it displays the video feed of its according side. Very sweet.

It is indeed the side camera. 1 on each side of the car.

Actually the iDrive screen is a single (10.25") screen and it displays the two images from the side view cameras with a superimposed yellow line that represents the front of the car. It is extremely useful for entering traffic from an alleyway or in the winter time when you have high snow banks and you can't see into the street!

I use it all the time to park the car. I move the car until the two yellow lines line up with the curb on either side of the car. That leaves me with about 6 to 8" from the front bumper to the curb. Makes parking really easy

I fell in love with the new mineral paint few months back (2 or 3 months). and guess what, i sprayed the mineral white on another european car which i have! [i hope thats not illegal!]

Three magical thing that it does :

1/ it is grey at night depending on the moonlight

2/ it is wonderful in white in the sun
3/ it has a slight difference with the Alpine white in the rain
