7 Series Midcycle facelift (LCI) coming soon?

Name: new7lci.jpg
Views: 10016
Size: 166.5 KB

By all accounts, the F01/F02 7 Series has been a success for the company in terms of sales. 2012 will mark mid cycle of the lineup and according to BMW insider Scott26 the top of the line car will get a few slight changes to bring it into line with the rest of the range. The updated car would be termed an LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) model.
  • The overall headlight shape will be unchanged but incorporate LEDs.
  • The kidney grills will loose the curved outline and inherit an angular shape that would similar to the F10 5-Series and the upcoming F12 6-Series and F30 3-Series.
  • The front bumper lower air intake will be modified and will be brought more inline with the original BMW 7-Series ActiveHybrid Concept and upcoming BMW 6-Series.
  • Reprofiled rear spoiler
  • 8 Speed Transmission and new more powerful engines (power boost for the V8).
  • To be shown at the 2012 Beijing Autoshow

It's not really that surprising... The F01/F02 was introduced at the end of 2008 beginning of 2009, so the 2012 face-lift is in-line with all the other models getting a face-lift within the 3 to 4 year cycle!

The previous model E65 has been exactly 7 years from september 2001 untill september 2008. This model was restyled in april 2005. If we copy this carreer to the current model, then this means that the restyling will be in april (autumn) 2012 and the end of his carreer will be in september (fall) 2015.

I just picked up my car a couple of months ago, sure is quick. The rear spoiler could be interesting, any pics?

I like how the 7-series looks now, but why not do an LCI - BMW usually does well on facelifts.

V8 Power boost? Yummy.

I would expect the F10 to get the same boost quickly thereafter.

Suspect power boost will be around 40hp similar as the tuned up activehybrid7 but no electric boost..

And, anyway, I hope to G-d that the facelift isn't as extensive (read: impressive) - visually - as the one for the E65/66, becuase I'll then be pissed!
BMWAG I believe.
and he's usually on this forum

The last LCI 7 series model was a huge improvement (at least in terms of design) over the normal version.
When we look at the other brands luxury models we can observe a very good new A8 and XJ and also a new S that will come in the near future. So BMW must do the homework very well to be able to mantain its position as high as possible in this very exclusive segment

I don't see a major facelift for the F01 like the last generation 7 series. The 2002-2005 7 series took A LOT of heat as being ugly, etc. I think that is why BMW did some major re-hauling on it for 2006-2008. It didn't look anything like any of the other BMW's at the time the 2002 7 series came out. The 7 series is now a lot more in line with the other BMW models....so I'd expect small changes....the 2006 change was almost like a new body style change altogether as much as you will see from a car maker.

Well, just about time!!
I do not understand how the flagship can still be running the outdated 6 speed auto!
Looks are still fresh, though

Did not even realize that was going to another site, looks like it might have been a staging site before they released changes to the site ? So this month the 2011 7 is going to change to 2012.

What about the camera package? Will that be coming back, or is it gone forever?

This is all "well and good", but my question is when? This info says 2012. The 7 series 2012s are already out. Do they mean next spring in 2012 for the 2013 model? I'm literally deciding between 4 cars. I plan to purchase at the beginning of the year/next spring. Having these changes in place might help the case of a 750I M Sport versus the 550I M Sport, M5, and E63 AMG I am also considering... The Beijing comment would imply for the 2013 model year...
