Ticking Noise Under Hood (Video)

What is this ticking noise(!?):





Just started hearing tonight!

In the second clip, it’s there, increases in intensity, then stops, but returns...

I have the same noise...but no idea what is causing it and if it's normal or not.

It's normal. It's caused by the higher pressure fuel injectors our direct injection engines now use. MB, Cadillac and all direct injection engines have the same loud ticking. It's a common side effect. Search google for direct injection ticking noise and you'll get plenty of detail.

+1. High Pressure Direct Injectors, sounds like a diesel motor with the hood opens.

Thank you, Gentlemen. I understand the baseline noise is due to the direct injection setup, but I'm referring to the noise that goes away; it's a very loud ticking noise – not the baseline ticking that's constant throughout...
