New Car & Driver Tire Review...Interesting results

In the new issue of Car & Driver, I think August 2009, they have a tire review. Top 3 tires included 2 Korean brands. They used the Michelen PS2 as the benchmark and both the Korean brands outperformed the PS2s.

I have the Kumho Ecsta XS as my summer/track tire. This tire just slaughtered the competition in the dry testing. Also came in first on a review in GRM. I will put on my stock Michelins if it looks like rain is inevitable on a track day.

Yep very impressive for Kumho and Hankook indeed. I might just pick a set up for track use. They would be trememdous value if they performed anywhere close to PS2's. The fact that they outperformed the PS2 is just icing on the cake.
The Chinese branded tires did not fare well compared to such illustrous competition, but we said the same about Japanese and Korean products not all that long ago. Heck it should be fun just to buy a pair for donuts and burnouts

I wish they tested the RE-11's. I wonder how they would've stacked up, especially to the Direzza Star Spec

Until the Koreans in Korea start buying imported products I won't be buying any of their products. Anyone that is non-Korean and has been to Korea recently know what I am talking about.

I will stick to Japanese and French tires for now..

Werd.

I don't trust too many things made in Korea anyways. Too much stuff here is done half-ass.

For what it's worth, the Korean economy is not much different from the Japanese. The country is in the first world of technology and where they are lagging they are catching up quickly.

I am just as upset as the next that they have trade barriers and tariffs to keep out the foreign competitors. But if you think the Euros are much different, particularly the French, then you haven't had much direct experience dealing with either country, like I have had.

Bottom line, the world is unfair. We are lucky to live somewhere where the playing field is "somewhat" level and all manufacturers must compete on their own merits. That's how we can buy M3's for a 30% discount compared to Europe and most of the world.

Enjoy the best the world has to offer, don't discriminate based on your bias.

I read that test with interest. For those who are lazy, here's a link
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests

My beloved Z1 are at the top. It'd be nice if they came sized for the M3.

As an all-around balanced tire, the PS2 is still hard to beat. But if you don't mind sacrificing some ride/noise harshness and some wet grip on the altar of dry grip, you can get some great bang for the buck with some of the others out there.

I think the RE-11 were excluded for price reasons. They're probably most like the Dunlops, but quieter and more expensive.

That link doesn't work, but the link to my scans is posted above in Post #3. Too bad the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas weren't included, though I know that's not one of your brands.

Well since it is a test using the PS2's as a benchmark. One could conclude they consider the PS2's as the best all-around tire.

LOL trade agreements handle the balancing of import export. you dont have to worry about it. for every penny you spend on their products, they're spending a penny on yours so relax.
