No, you're not the only one. ... No, I don't dread having kids in my car - but I differ from many people on this forum because I see my car the same way I see my phone or my computer... You do your best to look after it, but at the end of the day it's going to wear out and degrade with use. There's no point getting stressed over every scratch or dint.

It's totally worth it when your kids start saying "Your car is cool daddy" or "I want to go in daddy's car, because it's faster".

But I hate that I'm stuck with a car with 4 seats. I want a Lotus Elise. I hate that I don't get time to keep the car clean and I get embarrassed when I pull up to school in a nice black BMW that's covered in dirt because it rained yesterday, I had a family commitment on a dirt road and I had no choice but to use it today.

Honestly, nobody likes spending 3 hours detailing the car only to have it filled with sand and dirt 24 hours later.

You know, kids are awesome, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love them more than I love my car; but I don't think many people are openly honest about the sacrifices we make having kids.

... And if we're going to the beach, I'll always try to take the wife's car ... because I don't want my car covered in sand.

I guess we all have a choice - we could buy a $1,000 beater daily-driver car for the kids, and keep our fancy sports cars for ourselves... but where's the fun in that?

... but in all seriousness - if you're one of those people who really values their shit and wants to keep everything in pristine condition - teach your kids to follow your example.
Set some ground rules: If you want to drive in daddy's car, wipe your feet and no food in the car. .... and don't be afraid to buy some seat covers.

... Personally, I love driving around with my Labrador in the passenger seat of my 135i, the fact that his tail keeps hitting the iDrive controller worries me more than his claws on my windowsills.
