2 questions:
-What is the blue anodized tool in the pics? Used for removal or install or both?
-Do you have to use ISTA P for the programming? I'd like to do the whole job myself but I only have an older version of ISTA D (goes up to 2013 models).

The tool I used is the BMW (N63) FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION TOOL NO. 224911 from KTC Tools. $99 on eBay. I couldn't have removed them without this tool. Reasonably priced and easily procured. Worth it. The Genuine BMW tool is a combination of 2 special tools, from what I interpreted in the TIS and they're not the easiest to get.
Per the TIS you are supposed to use for installation as well, but I just made sure they were fully seated prior to installing the hold down brackets.
I used ISTA-D version 4.x.x

Service functions
Engine electronics
Adjustment functions
Injection quantity compensation.
I thought about doing a write up, but the TIS really explains it well. I can send a link if you can't find it.
