In racing, there's a saying that 95% of the people on the road consider themselves excellent drivers.
After several years of competing at the national level, I'm resigned that my talent only puts me in the top 35-40% nationally.
I think the more interesting question is what defines a good pilot? Is there some sort of magic ratio of "arrivals" to "landings" that signifies a good pilot? I would like to think that getting a plane back on the ground in re-usable condition every single time makes a good pilot, but Sully was a good pilot and made a name for himself by not even putting that plane onto the ground and most certainly not in flyable condition.....
