I think it's helpful to know what other brands bring to the table without talking everything else down. These are cross-shopped cars and comparisons help all.
The G70 7 is successful in sales. Not as successful as made out here on the forum but successful nonetheless.

I made this comment on MBWorld, what surprises me is that MB doesn't seem to be really very worried about the 7 outselling it. Through the whole 223 run basically the lease support on the S has been terrible. I got mine during a rare period where there was $10k in rebates stackable with $5k in loyalty for a total of $15k and decent MF and residual to where my S580 is only $350 more a month than my S560 was, but for the whole rest of the time the 223 was going to be $800 a month more than my 560 was, and thats how it is again right now. There are no rebates so the S580 is a > $2,000 lease payment while a 760 can be had for $1,400.
Oddly also the GLS lease deals right now are INSANE, I can lease a $125k MSRP GLS580 for $1280 a month with first months drive off...
MB could easily support W223 leases and do much better but for some reason they choose not to
Agreed theres no point in talking everything else down, to me that shows a lack of confidence in ones own choice. Both of these cars are great cars, they each have positives over the other and drawbacks too. $2,300 vs $1,400 I'd be in a 7 Series all day long. $1,600 vs $1,800 I'd still rather have the S Class but thats an impossible deal on an S Class today vs June 2024 when I got mine.
