OK. remember that in a MT the gears are always engaged, and you don't put extra wear on them by mis-shifting.

You are actually grinding your dogs (synchros), which are built to take that abuse, within reason. But if you manage to damage them, you'll usually feel that in thier takeup. And then yes, you'll need to get repairs and transmission fluid will be part of that.

Transmissions pans are designed to collect and tolerate fine metal shavings from wear and tear, and sometimes (or usually?) have magnet pickups, so you can stick to recommended servicing.

Unless you are doing hard racing, that always changes the rules for all consumables.
