I've been hoping Mazda would come out with a hot hatch in the current Mazda3 body, which is by far the best looking hatchback currently on sale.

Doubtful. Mazda at the end of the day is still a very small company with less resources. Right now they're focusing on SUV's as sales of the 3 and 6 have sadly taken a huge dip despite being excellent vehicles. That being said, I hope I'm wrong!
