I definitely believe there is something going on with ur mileage. I as well am getting decent combined mpg.. about 18-20mpg with my mixed driving as of late. I hope you can get to the bottom of it. I had a jb4 on my E90 and read fault code that way. Maybe u can get some kind of obd2 reader to get the info vs trying to get the code when taking it to BMW. Suggestions for the OP on a code reader anyone?
