There really isn't unless Continental wants to invite car companies to get involved in the R&D and testing of the hardware. The only thing BMW can do is do a recall and show goodwill towards those that are affected. If BMW can't trust or has to worry, what's the point of going third-party to a supplier who is supposed to be the expert? If BMW has to get deeply involved, they might as well design and manufacture the components themselves.

At the end of the day, s--t happens. You can't blame BMW for something they have absolutely no control over. The only time you could be up in arms with BMW is if they don't handle the recall in a satisfactory way, everything else is up to Continental to fix.
