Welcome to the first autoshow of 2011, in Motor City, Detroit USA. Detroit is going to be the site of the first public showing, the world premiere, of the new BMW 1M. The BMW Press conference will be held at 11:55 and we'll be providing coverage of the show and the official press conference. We're hoping to catch as many photos and videos of the event as possible, so keep your eyes peeled today!
Heres a quick run down of what to expect today:
World Premiere: BMW 1M
Detroit stands to be the World Premier site for the
BMW 1M. We expect BMW to make this the center focus of their press conference, and since this even takes place in the USA, we are hoping to see Pricing details announced during the show. Theres no confirmation on this yet, but we will watch out for pricing like hawks today!
Just to recap, the
BMW 1M is the 250kW/340BHP 1-Series monster bred by BMW Ms experts with the full panoply of BMW M work done to the car. The car features chassis technology derived directly from the motor racing track, a high power to weight ratio, athletic design with innovative aerodynamic features and an exclusive interior conceived for concentrated driving.
World Premiere: BMW 1 Series Coupe LCI and Convertible LCI
Its hard to imagine that the BMW 1 Series is still on its first generation of life. Where once this car was thought of as an experiement in a new market, it has now proved to be a true success story. And now, BMW has given the car the typical BMW treatment of an
LCI ("Life Cycle Impulse") facelift. The changes are slight, and focus around the light fixtures-- front and rear, but have an impact. We will try to get as many pictures as we can on these changes to highlight the differences.
World Premiere: BMW 6 Series Convertible
Until now, BMW has been showcasing the
BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept. Emphasis on
concept. Although the look of the car should remain virtually identical, this is the first time the
production 6 series will be shown off, and will be shown in the raptop version.
The market launch in the USA will be made with the BMW 650i Convertible. Its V8 power unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct fuel injection delivers 400 hp (300 kW/407 bhp) and can be combined with either a six-speed manual transmission, or an eight-speed automatic sports transmission.
BMW X3
The new X3 has been making the rounds at autoshows for a little while now, but this is the US, so BMW may or may not make a bit more news out of the X3 then usual. We'll see!
Showcase on EfficientDynamics and ConnectedDrive
BMW has made it a point to incorporate EfficientDynamics thinking into all its cars, and BMW will showcase the general technology at this show, especially as most manufacturers are going to be pointing to their alternative fuel/electric vehicles.
