I test drove a 730d before ordering my 740d XDrive, and in Sport Mode, they are worlds apart, with the 740d having far more get up and go and acceleration, so not sure why others are not seeing this.
In Comfort / Eco mode they are broadly similar, as throttle response is dumbed down, so would agree that they are similar in that mode.
