You can't just replace the DME, it has to be coded from factory with the VIN because it is linked to the anti-theft system. If you buy a used unit you'll also need to replace the CAS module and your key, and any scans moving forward will read out the VIN that replacement DME came from and not your cars VIN.

Another option is to find a shop that does DME cloning. Basically you buy a used DME and bring/mail your DME and the used one to the shop. They'll then clone your DME data onto the replacement DME and you can then install it in your car without issue as if it was your original DME.
