It didn’t have an effect on my choice, I thought it would be a gimmick, but I use the ‘2 finger’ option for mute which is really useful. There are buttons on the wheel for volume and skipping tracks, but not mute.
If you specify car play then I’m sure it’s for life, only 3 years when you activate it after purchase.
