Yes, the USN has the F-35C variant. I'm not sure how many have been introduced into service yet or how successful they are. There's a lot of fake news about this aircraft but it is likely to be very, very good once fully operational.
From a Hollywood / Top Gun perspective, it's really not a dogfighter and Beyond Visual Range engagements (which it is designed for) as well as air to surface missions don't make for such a visually spectacular movie storyline.
Plus it's no supermodel in the looks department. The Tomcat takes a lot of beating in that regard. The Super Hornet doesn't fare too badly (but noting I am from Australia, I am biased).
